Permit will deped from country to country.

I was spearfishing for more then 20 years, in my country. Never did spearfishing anywhere else.. But I have friends going to international spearfishing championships.

Somewhere will be under permit + daily bag limit.
Somewhere will be allowed without permit + daily bag limit.
Somwhere will not be allowed at all.

It can be done, under condition it is allowed:
- By freediving, apnea
- or with scuba gear.

If you want to be good, you focus on free diving. Scuba is very much limited for spear fishing.

However, spearfishing by using scuba, at night, with torch can be very effective. But, this also is not allowed everywhere. So, you will need to check local regulations.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob
