I have read the .470 Capstick has a shadow shoulder. Not much info I can find on exactly what that is. I figured when I reloaded it, I would find out. I found out I was wrong. It doesn’t look any different than my .458 Lott loads, but with bigger bullets.

what am I missing? Am I doing something wrong? I end up w a roll crimp, which aesthetically looks great, but it’s not about the looks. Lol

What I have read about the “shadow” or “ghost” shoulder on the Lott case, is that it was added later in the design to help secure the bullet better in the case. Evidently, Jack Lott’s original case design didn’t include a ghost shoulder? I too cannot really see it on the cases?

From Any Shot You Want - the neck starts at 2.380" from the case head and runs to the 2.850" case mouth/case overall length. It is a .47" section of parallel brass walls designed to help hold the cartridge firmly in the case against recoil. One is to use a roll crimp of .008" to .010"

Hope this helps!

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?
