We have similar likes in books. Bob Hagel and John Wooters were big influences on me in my younger years.

Me too. I was in the shooting sports industry for my whole career and met most and hunted with a few of the writers. Bill Jordan, Hagel and Wootters were the nicest. Two stand out as being the biggest a-holes I ever met. My biggest disappointment was when I met one of the guys I almost idolized (I was a huge 270 fan) and he turned out to be such a pompous SOB I wanted to bitch-slap him! I don't think O'Connor owned a toothbrush. The joke was we could smell his breath all the way across the booth. The other one was 5'5". I was a full foot taller than Elmer and he resented me so much he wouldn't talk to me in the Winchester booth. My boss said if you gave old Elmer an enema you could bury him in his hat.

I met Elmer at the Houston gun show many years ago. Elmer was actually quite cordial and patient with me. I was a kid then and lived with a handgun strapped on when I was on the farm or hunting. A couple of my favorites (and most hated by my parents and the milk cows ) were a S&W M29 4" and a Ruger Flattop 44.

However, Skeeter and Bill Jordan, they were ready to adopt me, it seemed. I looked up to them as the end all authorities on everything handgun related. I still have the old model Ruger Flattop 357 that I had modified to 44 Special and a M19 with the recommended Bill Jordan modifications, even though my hands are still half the size of his. Skeeter was definitely responsible for my love of the 44 Special.

Bob Hagel doesn't know much about American game animals. We have no antelopes. The only antelopes we did have that I've been able to uncover were Saiga's that crossed the Bering land bridge about 40,000 years ago into Alaska and on into Northern Canada. But they didn't survive in North America after the Ice Age.

We do have a Pronghorn, but it's not an antelope. It's actually more closely related to Giraffe and Okapi. Just busting' chops. ;-)

The Encyclopedia Britannica calls it pronghorn antelope, but I agree, to me they were always called "goats". In any event, as long as you don't gut it in the sagebrush they are damn good to eat!

I have a number of 'older' loading books, including Hagel's book... it's worth having, although technology (laser RFs) have obsoleted some of Bob's beliefs. I recommend it in any case.
