Sauer 100 field ethos problems

I don't know, I'd say the checkered bolt knob, barrel band stud, iron sights and higher grade wood is what makes it a non-budget price over our logo, but I'm not too smart.

I am, however, smart enough to diagnose this as a rifle issue. The rest of us with these rifles have shot a lot of the PPU factory loads and have had zero issues with the primers, and he's having light strikes on the HL's. Most likely going to have them with his new ammo.

Just FYI, I spoke with @coolusername and his rifle is sorted. He cleaned the grease out and he's ready to kill some of God's most beautiful creations.

That’s correct @jasonv. I was able to figure out that it was an ammo issue 100%. I cleans the grease out then shot through a box each of hornady and lapua factory ammo without a single issue. Then I tried the custom stuff again just to see and 3 out of 8 rounds went bang. It’s unfortunate because this company had good reviews on here. Here in the next few days or so I plan on making a post about my experience with this dude and let everyone know what to watch out for.

Now I have fired maybe 200 rounds before and never had this issue same brass that had been fire and resized. So I also took the bolt apart and it also was caked in grease, gave it and goo cleaning and a shot of Rem oil when I was done and will give it a try when the wind lays down so I can finish load development

Alright fellas, I seem to be in a rifle, possibly ammo predicament. It’s kind of long but here go.
At the end of last year I got myself the goes ethos rifle to take on my upcoming hunting trip to South Africa. I bought a few boxes of PPU 285gr to break it in and everything ran flawlessly minus the last couple of rounds that were soft primer strikes. I figured it was an ammo issue.
Moving forward from that I had purchased some custom hand loads from someone that has been recommended on this forum by quite a few people. I took the rifle to the range today to get it zeroed in and only 14/38 rounds actually went bang. The rest were soft primer strikes. I called Sauer and they said they don’t think it’s a rifle issue and most likely an ammo issue and recommends to only use factory stuff. But also said I can send my bolt in for warranty work.
I called the ammo guy and he said it’s most likely because his rounds have magnum primers and sauer’s are known for not doing well with magnum primers.
Now this isn’t a bash on this guy and his ammo. For the ones that did fire, they were damn near in the same hole as the previous round fired so very accurate and he even offered to make me new rounds with bench rest primers to replace the stuff I bought. So he’s making it right and potentially fixing the issue. Which is great.
Now here’s the issue. As I type this, I’m 30 days away from leaving for my trip. I ordered one box of hornady and one box of lapua rounds which should be here this next Wednesday to see if they’ll fire without an issue. It’ll be roughly 1.5-2 weeks before I get the new batch from the ammo guy. Im worried about trusting this new batch because of what happened with the first. I’m more or less looking for guidance from some experienced people that may have gone through a similar issue. Should I buy all new ammo entirely? I saw buffalo bore restocked their 250gr TSX. Thanks to everyone that stayed until the end.

Personally, I don't believe that the problem is the ammunition. If the problem occurs with different bullets and sporadically, then you have to check the bolt. Unfold it completely and see if the firing pin or spring is not hitting the outer walls somewhere. It may happen that there is something that bothers her and occasionally blocks her movemen

I also sent PM Jason about the issue I have with 255 and 280 grain CEB bullets or any bullet that is not pointed. look at the area in front of the mag where the bullet starts up the feed ramp there is what I call a "nub" that will stop any bullet with a bit of a flat nose it works great with all pointed bullets. I would like to use those 2 bullets on cape buffalo this coming Sept instead of my 458 and the PH is fine with it. Hope he has an answer for it.
