I found a Ruger # 1 in 38-55 on an auction website and it looks too good to pass up at the current bid. It looks to be in excellent condition and is topped with a Leupold 8x scope that also looks like new. Was just wondering if anyone would like to talk me into or out of bidding on this rifle. And before someone asks, no I don't really have a need for this particular rifle or caliber, but it just looks so cool. Thoughts?

Well its rare for sure. The round is interesting, usually seen in model 94 Winchesters. Loaded in a strong rifle like the No.1 its the equal of the .375 Winchester round, same bullet and same basic case.
Should be a good shooter.
Keep us posted.

I saw that one also and examined it in hand. It's very nice, no reason not to be interested in it, except I might also be interested in it. But I'll tell you what, I'll PM you what else I'm interested in and if you stay away from mine, I'll stay away from this one.;)

Best regards,
Sounds like a plan.

Did not know that was ever a chambering for the No 1. Happy that you saw it before I did. I might have weakened for that one. Have taken one muley and two lopes with that caliber using black in a lever gun…that’ll be a great carry gun when you’re fit for hiking again….Bill

Hey Bill, yeah apparently, they made it for 1 year. At the auction they also have a nice #1 in 45-70, that would be more your style, based on what I've seen.

I realize how hard the bug has bit. I’m on the cusp of safari #2 and I’m looking to plan #3 with my 11 year old a year from now while looking at my work schedule for overtime and computing the math of how many shifts are needed….

I'd like to get some too.

My wife (a biologist, like me) had to have a melanoma removed from her arm last fall.
