Does anyone have any experience with a recoil reducer installed in a Ruger RSM? If so who’s on the list for trustworthy and reliable work? Thinking of adding one to a .458Lott RSM or selling it for a .416 Rigby if these rifles aren’t really suited for them, Thanks in advance, the rifle is not scoped and I have no intention on the installation of one if that helps, just trying to tame the recoil the best it can be done and add some weight.

Not an RSM but a Ruger No 1 - mine has a perfect bolt hole under the recoil pad where I installed a 3/4” dia 8oz mercury recoil reducer - makes the Ruger No 1 in 450/400 3” shoot super sweet - just takes enough of the recoil out to make it a very nice, sweet shooting rifle.

@Javaman do you know or know of a calculation table for what that size reducer actually reduces the felt recoil to? Just trying to compare work, and money to see if its worth it or not rather than installing a recoil pad instead

I don’t, except … reading multiple threads on AH forum, talking with the mercury reducer people, combing through the interweb and concluding (not scientifically) that it’s good for about a 20% reduction at max, depending on rifle weight. Seemed like it would take just that little edge off the recoil, which it did.

In my case, I figured out what the optimal weight of a Ruger No 1 in my caliber was (10.5 lbs fully loaded with scope, round in the chamber and rounds on the buttstock carrier) for both shoot ability and carry and then added 8 oz to bring me to that weight.

Rifle balance can come into play in rifles that are lighter to start with.

I went mercury because the mechanical one used and well reviewed by Philip Glass on here is not available atm (owner has some cancer).

Full disclosure, I added the reducer in addition to adding a new Decelerator pad. The stock Ruger one was horrible.

Hope this helps.

Not sure your price range. Have a 375 H&H with a muzzle brake. Nice rifle only fired a few times. Also a Mossberg 375 Ruger its been used and shows a few hunts on it.
