Does anyone here have any experience with this service?

I'm not looking at it for Africa, but here in the states where public/private land can be very convoluted.

I don't have it, but I have seen it recommended on several occasions. I expect that you will be very happy if you get it.

I have used it a lot in MN, MT and Idaho. It is super useful. It helps a lot with ranchers when you can use a map to ask questions. You can mark a spot in the offline mode and then easily navigate back to that spot in the dark (no headlamp!!). It helps for setting deer stands. It helps for figuring out the best way to drag and animal back to the truck.
@Chukar Where will you use it?

I'll give it a report if I try it. Thanks!

I'm re-starting hunting in Oregon. Convoluted boundaries of public/private and I don't have a lot of contacts in areas I would like to hunt. I like the idea of land ownership markings so I can find land owners and ask permission or know where I shouldn't be hunting on.

Thanks for the comments!

Then you absolutely will not regret using onX. You will be able to pre scout areas before you get there and know the names of the neighbors and what size acreage they are on.
You can also use it to mark on the map where an animal was when you shot at it. So when you cross a small canyon you will have a better chance of finding it’s location. Especially for shots at last light. And you can text your location to people.
I think you can try it free for a few days.

I use the OnX maps on an iPad. I carry it on purpose made, swiveling holder in my truck. I use in all the western states for bird hunting, mainly. They work very well, and fast, flexible and accurate. Mapping works on-line or you can download pieces if you are traveling beyond cell range.

As a bird hunter, I would like to figure out a way to transfer my Garmin Alpha tracks to the OnX display.

You will get your money's worth if you hunt much.

I use it in CO, WY and KS. So far it has worked well. As a Nevada Mike said, I download the areas I plan to hunt. Looks like Google Earth, but with land ownership. Helps researching terrain to explore and hunt including a couple of PD towns. I definitely think it’s been worth the money for me.

Good luck in your decision.

The secrete to using the phone app is to make sure that you have downloaded the maps before you get to the area, then use Airplane mode once you get there. That along with having the ability to recharge your phone where you are at.

If you don't download the maps before hand you might find yourself in a situation where you don't have any service and can't get them. The battery charging is self explanatory.

In Idaho it is well worth the small investment.

Have used it quite a bit in WY, MT, and WI. Very useful, worth the cost in my opinion. As was said, if using it on your phone make sure you download the maps prior to going out.

I use it all the time in WY. Very good service overall. I did catch one error in their unit maps last year, but I rely in it heavily.

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
