NASA Launch Today

Perhaps I live with and around some really adventure-averse people, but no one I know or have asked would go into space if they were given an opportunity. I'd say yes in a heartbeat. How about you fine folks?
Not a chance. Space has never interested me. But to live beneath the sea—in a heartbeat.

@Red Leg, Yes, couldn’t agree more! I’ve known three as acquaintances over the years, including Wally Shirra, Owen Garriott and Jack Schmitt. Jack Schmitt and Gene Cernan were the last two on the moon. Jack Schmitt, originally from Silver City, now lives in the Albuquerque area. I had breakfast with him a couple years ago. He’s getting up there and one of the few early pioneers still with us. He’s an extremely sharp scientist.

No for me, but it would be nice if NASA could reclaim some of it's former glory.

I think it's ridicules that I have to talk to my kids with space exploration in the past tense.

IMO, DEI has ruined our space program.

Just look at NASA in 1969.

No one but the best and brightest.

Now, SpaceX has the best and brightest.

After 2 hours of waiting for them to go. I went to bed. I don’t like much Russian these days but I do like how they send them off no count down do delays your just going!
Must be the team hair cut before…our that the launch crew have to drink some of the rocket fuel, they have some strange traditions there!

Edit: I must say it is good to see them heading back to the moon! About time(y)

They will have to dust off that old moon studio :A Stirring: :A Outta:

I enjoyed the fact that my two grandsons were enthusiastic and “over the moon” excited watching the launch. We will track the progress together during the mission.

Remember it’s not all nostalgia and waste. The U.S. needs to stay competitive in the next arms race. Space weapons platforms.

It’s a shame that as soon as man invents or makes something practical. We find a way to kill each other with it. But unfortunately that’s reality, and humans.

:30 after Wilbur and Orville first flew someone else was strapping a machine gun on the contraption.

Was glued with my parents to the TV in 1969 - you know - the one the nut jobs on the web claim never happened. Stayed absolutely engrossed through the next six landings (plus the heroic return of Apollo 13) through 1972. Somehow the conspiracy clowns seem to overlook the following five successful landings. I was despondent when we walked away from that magnificent achievement. I'll admit to a tear in my eye this evening watching the launch.
Apollo 11, July 1969. What a technological feat, and in 1969, 57 years ago!

For space travel enthusiasts and those who want to relive this odyssey, NASA has created a website, "APOLLOINREALTIME.ORG" which recounts the epic stories of the Apollo 11, 13, and 17 missions. Everything is documented: from launch to return to Earth, including all communications between the spacecraft and space control. It's truly extraordinary what humans accomplished in 1969.

Apparently the Chinese are planning to put astronauts on the moon in 2030 so we’re shooting for 2028. Got another space race going on

I don't know man.....private space travel could be comparable to viewing the Titanic in a private submersible. Always a high probability of something going wrong

No doubt there’ll be an issue or two before they get it lined out. I think there was some operator error involved with that tragedy?

Yep! Hostile, unforgiving environment.

I'm all for space exploration ... with a valid purpose. The only purpose I can see to this is spending a whole lot of money to make the US (or its president) look important. Build a better telescope, yeah I can see some purpose in that. We send exploration robots to the nether regions of our solar system and beyond. I'm okay with paying for that too. But this just seems to make no sense. What's the point? Grandstanding with a very grand pricetag.

Of course you would feel this way..

It’s hard to imagine how someone can’t see the value of manned missions and the benefits of the research and testing that will take place.

You need to let some of that Trump hate go. Maybe even US hate? That’s a wild comment.

I'm sure this goofy project was started long before Trump came along. And exactly what research and testing can be performed by a bunch of astronauts that couldn't be done more economically with unmanned craft or inside the orbiting space station that's already been built and mostly paid for? Or is it even still operational?

^^^Even worse. The Artimus 2 is taking money from Minnesota Learing centers and Los Angeles Hospice
The 4 billion we are spending on space exploration could’ve kept a Minneapolis Learing center open for 10 months.

You heartless Americans.

That is true but I bet if Kamala would’ve won you wouldn’t be griping

Of course I would. If she had pursued the project to launch. Stupid stuff is stupid stuff. I find it ironic that MAGA boasted about trimming wasteful spending by cutting jobs and departments and then proceeds with this. Must have cost a gazillion dollars. For what? A nice distraction. When the country and the planet we live on are faced with grave environmental and social issues that threaten the continuation of life as we know it. Maybe we should be more concerned about fixing what's wrong here before wasting huge money floating a crew of astronauts around a chunk of known useless dead real estate. Just so they can enjoy the view?

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, you’re hopeless lol

I like to say yes but I’m a hard no. If it’s on terra firma I’m good to go. If it’s in the air, in space or under the sea I’m not coming lol. If I didn’t have a wife and kid I might. I would get in a shark cage. Might sky dive too
@Wishfulthinker580 - AGREE, I couldn’t put my Family thru that and there are certain risks I avoid - Not out of fear but because my Life means more to them then it does to Me….and I wouldn’t risk it for a “thrill”. Now, I do other things that have risk: Backpacking/camping alone, Hunting alone often, but that is very important to me and a Part of My life —- Space rides, underwater subs, sky diving is Not.

I love my family and friends. But if NASA or Space X said "Terry, would you like a seat" there would be no hesitation, and my family has heard me say that.

I will be looking for a set of these when my .505 is done... sadly not cashed up right now for these. :(
Need anything in trade?
Cheers,
