Namibian taxidermy is stuck- advice

That has not been my experience at all. He states all taxidermy was completed in Oct 2024. All my trophies shipped quickly after being dropped off with shipping agent. I think there is more to this story.
That's good and I know it can be efficient there. I have the record. A dip and pack delivered in 30 days from the day I left. Lately it has been slower than RSA.
Yes I am sure there is more to the story.

Just to tie up this story, 19 months after I left Namibia, I finally have my pieces back! It took a lot of pushing, and even changing shipping agents to shake the truth out, which was basically an outfitter not having permits for some of the animals, waiting for the opening of the 2025 season to then obtain them! Had the truth been shared it would still have been frustrating, but better than a lot of lies.

Quite sure we would like to know who this "outfitter" is, hunting without permits, could get some good people in legal trouble.

Would like to see the trophies and the name of the outfitter who was responsible for this fiasco.

Glad your trophies made it.

"Waiting on permits!"

“Shoot first, get permits later” is pretty tough business model to sustain

I’d love to show you the skulls but they’re all in degreasant at mine pending a new boil. It looks like Erongo have boiled them in a vat of fat. The skulls are that saturated in grease they are growing mould.

I prepare around 40 skulls a year, it’s not a difficult job, this is just a very badly done job. And with half the teeth missing on the skulls.

Skins were largely good.

Had this happen on my 2005 trip.

Paid 4000 Euros for taxidermy and 2000 Euros to ship everything to America. Nothing ever happened.

Volker Grellman worked on it, but we never got anywhere. Volker said the outfitter was going to just send replacement skulls. I objected.

This was part of that Tony D' Costa Hunt Pack BS timeline. I was one of Tony's last clients.

Soured me on a lot of guided hunting until about 8 years ago.

I really feel for you I really do and yes it does sour things. We would have been back in Africa the following year if it had gone well or quicker!

At least our trip ended in getting the taxidermy back, well bar one hunter who ended up getting a silver wildebeest skin back from Erongo that was absolutely not his animal! And a few other guys getting smashed skulls after leaving Erongo taxidermy. My own oryx skull needed a fair bit of glue as it was one of the casualties!

I’d love to go back but I do have trust issues now, I’d be much more cautious next time.

As someone above said, what a business model to get permits later. Waiting 19 months when everyone’s been paid is bad business and reflects badly on hunting in that country at all.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
