Has anyone here hunted a named animal? I recently watched a video from Bowmar Bowhunting on YouTube(a very high quality video I must say) and he hunted a leopard who had the name Hannibal. He got the name because he was known for killing other leopard’s in the area.

So I want to know if you have any story’s of a animal you hunted with a name to it

I call every animal I hunt george. Because I have people ask from time to time if it had a name when they see the taxidermy I have so I say yes curious george (the first person to ask me this question asked about my baboon.)

We occasionally name deer that we capture on trail cams prior to hunting season... mostly just so the different hunters on the lease all know which animal we are talking about, understand which buck was taken, or which buck is frequenting which areas, etc.. Its more of a communication tool between hunters than anything else..

A baboon named curious George! That’s funny

Sure, mr. roast, mrs. steak and little miss sausage. Seriously though IMO we should not give them human characterizations, I think it gives the antis another bullet. In the case of ID in a hunting club so someone doesn’t shoot a buck before his time, maybe just between members.

I recently saw an elephant hunt with Buzz charlton where they tracked down a big bull ele that was wearing a collar. It had wandered off a nearby park where that bull was well known.
It had a name which I have already forgotten, but the collar prevented them from taking the bull.

Hunting animal named by other people, is a recipe for front page news!

What I read in my local papers, usual victims are other peoples dogs (with name, of course) that strayed into woods and meet trigger happy hunters.
And so they made news.

As per our previous hunting laws, hunters had obligation to shoot stray dogs in the woods, but latest laws (under EU legislative and directives) ban this practice, and treat this as felony. (meaning possible imprisonment, fine, and long term or permanent confiscation of fire arms)

Same laws state the owners are not allowed to keep uncontrolled dogs in the woods, but the same laws do not solve the problem of breading population of stray dogs, making havoc on the game in managed hunting areas. So, no real solution.

Yeah, must have been the big bull at Mana Pools. It wonders into Nyakasanga hunting area, at one time they saw him by the air strip almost 100km away. While not illegal to hunt him, a lot of people come to Mana Pools to see him, so PHs will not hunt him.

Last year on our day off to visit Mana Pools I wanted to take a look at him as well, but the GPS tracker showed him being almost 50 miles away.

good ivory? Or just big?

This twenty-five year-old cow I shot in 2019 is "Granny."

This bull taken two years later is "Bone Crusher." Not sure if he ever stomped anyone, but giving him that name generates a lot of shock and awe among clients visiting our taxidermy trophy room. Then we get a good laugh when I admit to BSing them.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
