Will a post-64 long action CRF firing pin fit in a pre-64 long action bolt and safety? I am trying to get the parts together for a build and pre64win.com doesn’t show any firing pins in stock and no one else seems to have them either. From looking at pictures, it looks like the biggest difference is the spring retainer - a clip on the post-64s. or are there other options I’m overlooking?

John

I compared a pre-64 with a post-64. the post wouldn't screw in completely to the bolt, but it may be possible for something on the shank to be machined so that it would fit. The pre wouldn't go into the post- the firing pin stop bushing diameter was larger, but the post would go into the older bolt- so it may be possible to get one to work, although it doesn't appear to be a drop in arrangement.

Is your gun LA or SA? I have a brand new, in box (tube) Tubbs that fires even quicker than stock. ;) This makes for more accurate long shots. (stuff mossberg at wallyworld will never know.) And, the only reason I have it was for backup on far away hunts, but I sold that gun! LOL No issues, I just have a rule: If i want a newer, better version in that caliber, I have to get rid of the old! Besides, I know a guy whose garage is FILLED with safes and he doesn't even know what he's got or what he's paid! (he's a widower.) lol

@C.W. Richter it’s a standard/long action pre-64.
If still interested, I located the Tubb's pin, springs and cocking piece (blued) in the original shipping tube with instructions. There's also another website that discusses various years, dimensions, etc. from original Win gunsmiths (they noted the differences between the LA, SA and 22 Hornet pin assemblies and for diff year. I think you nailed it above.) $100. I don't believe they're even sold any longer. SAs on Midway have been reduced 50%. I do have 1 Win CRF left but it shoots fine, is not a long-range rig and I originally purchased the pin assuming I could get it to fit on a Montana 1999 (wrong! it's scaled down somewhat.) I think it would work on the Dakotas as well.

@C.W. Richter I really appreciate it. I’ll definitely take the firing pin for $100. I’ll send you a PM so we can work details. Thanks

Thanks greatly! I'm leaving for the holidays so won't be around until 8 December. If that works I'll be appreciative. Address is Mason Reid, 1504 Driftwood Drive, Bozeman, MT 59715.

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
