Good afternoon and thank you for the add! I have the pictured rifle that I was given by the spouse of my neighbor when he passed away about 6 years back. She recently passed and it reminded me that it’s been bagged in my safe all this time.

I’m not a hunter, which is what he used to do in Upstate New York and I’m not not much of bolt action guy with the exception of my Uberti Sharps (not quite the same I know. )

Anyways, I’m told it’s a Mauser but aside from the numbers I can’t find any markings to give a clue as to manufacturer, caliber etc.

Any thoughts?

You will need to show the opposite side of the action. Any marking on the barrel will help to identify who customized the rifle.

Definitely a Mauser style action. From serial numbers I would say a commercial. Surprising no caliber marking. I recall seeing one similar with no marking that one was in 30-06. Someone will probably be able to identify.

Your rifle was built by Flaig’s in Millvale, PA on a modified commercial FN Mauser action.

Looks like a 1895 Chilean Mauser Action. It has the extra ”safety“ notch that the bolt handle can lock in when the bolt is closed. Looks like great wood and engraving, overall a very nice custom rifle. Originally in 7x57, but could have been rebarreled because it doesn’t have the stepped barrel (But it could have been turned down). These actions weren’t as strong as the later 1898 Mauser. Lots of info on them on the web.

I glanced at my Chilean before I left for work and I believe you're correct.

Looks like a small ring action to me but, the engraving may be giving an optical illusion.
