Lyman Sonicore suppressors

Lyman has announced a new line of Sonicore suppressors. "Bringing Eurpoean design to the US" with extremely affordable lineup. MSRP said to be $199-$299 depending on model. 22, 9mm, and 30 cal options.

Anyone heard much about these or have an opinion? For that price, I'm definitely interested in getting into the suppressor game, especially now that the tax stamp is gone.

I was hoping the market would turn this direction once the stamp went away.

Older suppressor designs aren’t hard to machine and don’t require super high end materials… there’s really no reason you have to charge $600-$1k for a basic suppressor to make a profit..

You’re not going to get “Hollywood” quiet out of any of these (based on what I can tell from the published schematics)… but if all you’re looking for is to bring the sound down to a reasonable level for hunting without having to wear ear protection, and dropping recoil a bit, these will get the job done at a very reasonable price..

Now it’s just a matter of having to wait for them to get stocked in bulk somewhere… as soon as I can find them on the shelf I’m in for the .22 and a couple of over the barrel 308’s…

I've not yet found any substantial info on them other than sales/marketing descriptions.

Separate question for those of you with suppressors- is there any real difference in performance for a Direct Thread vs Over-barrel mount?

Almost exactly my thoughts. I dont need a bank breaker, just a little something for hunting. I think these will sell extremely well given the price point.

Over the barrel (except the new dead air xeno OTB) are still Direct thread.
For the most part I have read that OTB suppressors generally have a deeper tone and less muzzle forward mass and length. Inch for inch and ounce for ounce a muzzle forward can will have better suppression given the same design. It’s just a matter of suppression per inch forward of the muzzle which affects balance.

I have only shot one OTB suppressor. It was amazing but it was 15oz and 10” long. That was the AB raptor 10 with 5” bull barrel reflex.

I reached out to Lyman to get more information. They will officially unveil these at the SHOT SHOW and then will immediately start sending stock to their dealers after that.

I’m patiently standing by and will be ordering 3 as soon as they are released

Interesting. We needed a disruptor in the market for lower cost suppressors. I was hoping NFA tax removal might put some downward pressure on pricing.

Concur.

There is definitely a market for a $1200 titanium, latest technology, Hollywood quiet can…

But I believe there is also a huge market for a basic $300 steel or aluminum can with basic cone baffles that will cut recoil and sound enough to make a difference, but not much more… I think “blind” hunters will buy that sort of can by the thousands… I also think the “tacti-cool” guys shooting $450 AR’s at the range will buy them by the tens of thousands…
