United States-but I am always optimistic!
Ok, another new guy here...But I have considered this before joining as well, but in another fashion. I am the proud owner of a PERFECLY fitted side by side 12 ga. with 3" chambers, 26" barrels, double triggers, screw in choke tubes, no bull flat matte finish stock... I was digging for a way to make it a "hog gun", and here is what I found:

    CHAMBER ADAPTERS

They make inserts in 2.75", 10", and 18". The longer inserts are RIFLED! Not sure on ballistics, but I would look tothe performance of the Contender barrels-they seem to be similar in length and such. I am going to invest in a single 10" .45-70 as soon as the money comes thru...Maybe put a recessed flip up rear sight too-would make a decent 30 yard hog gun, I think.

OK so I revised this thread to show I did look for something before just posting a new thread. Here is my question, What are these?

Is this a custom job where the gunsmith took a O/u shotgun and made it a double rifle? Thoughts? In the market for a double rifle and think these are unique and kinda cool but I am worried about the action holding up to a 458 win mag. Any advice from the "pros", "wanna-be pros" or like me "know they are not a pro" would be helpful.

Hi, I´m also interested in this conversion but for a different reason, I live in Brazil, where now we manage to get to hunt wild boar, because it´s an invasive species, and has colonized almost the entire country, I do have a rifle, but many friends and people I know do not own one, here in Brazil most people have shotguns, or the puma, rossi´s copy of winchester, and most commonly on 38 special caliber, so they are not the best options for a big wild boar over medium to long distances. To import a rifle can become very expensive because of brazilian gun laws which are made to make people give up on owning guns, easily a rifle can have it´s price tripled as it arrives in Brazil. So my question is how difficult is to manufacture a set of rifled barrels for shotguns, and can it be made for any caliber? Inserts could be something to look up for but here in Brazil to import anything out of the ordinay is impossible, I was told even a set of barrels are impossible to import, so I want to show people that may be a local set of barrels could be better and cheaper than importing one. Also if it is in a big african caliber I wouldn´t mind since we have lotos of fereal water buffaloes, and we are pushing to hunt them also.

I converted a Brno SxS shotgun to a poor man's double rifle. I had the barrels shortened to 24 inches, fitted a front site and fitted a rear ghost ring site. I had this done after a close call on a follow up on a wounded leopard. This became my Leopard back up gun and is also great for pigs. Works like a charm. I have also shot gemsbuck, blue wildebeest, and impala with it.

I use slugs in this gun. I prefer Brenneke slugs as they give the best penetration.

I have recently aquired 20 machined brass cases and 40 drawn cases in 12ga. I want to load these with slugs and I think it will work out well and look better than plastic cases.

I know it is not a "real double" but it is my poor man's double and is really fun to shoot and hunt with.

You will need a competent gunsmith to convert a shotgun to NE cartridges and if not done correctly could be dangerous.

No doubt a good gunsmith is needed for it, I just wanted to know if it is possible, and yes quality and price walk hand in hand, but for brazilian hunters to acquire a rifle is really expensive, just today a friend told me his CZ 500 in 458 lott sold for 25 thousand reais (brazilian currency) which makes roughly 7 thousand dollars, all of this because taxes on imported guns are very high, so if a local hunter pays 3 to 4 thousand dollars to make locally a set of barrels or a double on a local made shotgun action it will be a great economy, and even if the buffaloes take long to be open for hunting, wild boar will be fun to hunt with a double rifle on a classic caliber. I will include some pictures of the boars we are finding here in Brazil.
