I will be making my first trip to Limpopo with my Son on a 10 day hunt. If we have time we would like to mix in a little Bird Hunting. Does this region have good Bird hunting?

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you,

BAndryc

Hard question to answer really.
Depends when you are showing up?
Free State has more crops, thus more likelihood of chasing some migratory birds in a field.

Upland birds, they are in Limpopo for sure.

Banging away with a shotgun while others are trying to hunt Kudu does not usually mix well from what I have seen. :)

"Walking Up" Guinea Fowl with a dog was great fun. I also found that the meat was an excellent meal. But, I was shooting up in Otjozondjupa (province) in Namibia.

There are some dedicated bird chasers though.

These are the local folks. Not Outfitters. FYI: You will have to have a PH to hunt in Limpopo.

Good luck.

Thank you for your information. We will be hunting the middle of July 2012.

Hi bandryc

The Limpopo is not typically know for its bird hunting.I have done some walk up hunts on guinea fowl but most farms are not geared up for bird hunting. Freestate is the typical birdhunt area you are looking for. To stand in between the sunflowers and being bombarded by rock pigeons twice a day is a challence and a treat at the same time.
If you are in the right field be prepared ,500 cartriges a day is normal for 1 gun.
Febr. is best time ( to hot for me). I always go in april, birds are still good , tempature is good.
Keeps me and my friends comming back each year.
Have fun in the Limpopo

Back After a Long Time – Hello Again!

Hi everyone,

I’ve been a member since 2015 but haven’t been active since 2017. Life got busy, especially with building my second business. Still, I’ve kept my passion for hunting and followed things from afar. Now that I have more time, I’m excited to reconnect, contribute, and be part of the community again.

All the best,
ANDY

I'd like a bag of 100. I could actually pick it up since I'm in North Irving, but if you prefer, shipping it is fine.
