Just finished this book. A worthy read for sure. The author hunted elephant in Mozambique from the mid 1930’s until commercial hunting was closed in 1953. In that time he accounted for over 1000 elephant. Several of which were over the magical 100 pound mark. His largest was a great specimen with both tusks weighing in at over 180 pounds. They are the 4th largest known set of tusks.

It’s available from several outlets. I got mine here.

Loads of deception in that book. Have a read of this article explaining more.

@Nkawu , excellent. I`ve read the book and had a lot of questions when done with it. Some things just did not add up. Just the fact that he did`nt put a picture of Carmen in his book. He also wrote about buffalo "he looked at me as if I owed him money".. well, that`s Robert Ruarks words.
Thanks for enlightening me +++

No worries! I just wish I could get a hold of part 1 and 2 of that magazine article. Very interesting reading.

I dont remember description of "buffalo owned the money" look, in that book. But it is some time since I read the book, so I might forgot it, as well.

It has to be noted that Robert Ruark is the most quoted safari writer in history. Probably second most famous qoute from him is "to bring enough gun".

All in all, the book is good, I would recommend it to anyone interested in safari literature.

Taylor also has a lot of questionable issues in his writings....other than being m and g....

I enjoyed the book anyway.

Not unusual for writers to mix some fiction with reality ;)

Thanks for sharing the article. I read Manner's book but never realized there was any intrigue around the big bull on the cover.

If you find the other two articles, please post them.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on another rifle but would love to see your rifle first, any way you could forward a pic or two?
Thanks,

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
