What have some of you done or seen others do with their elephants? I’m not talking about should mounts. Here’s a few thoughts I had so far.
  • belt
  • wallet
  • watch band
  • pistol and rifles case
Pictures would be great!!

Thanks

Elephant leg tables, ottoman/foot rest, bench,
I think one AH member recently showed they had an ear mounted as it is shaped like the African continent,
ammo/cartridge case,
knife sheath,
pounch / purse / briefcase

Those are some good ones. Anyone have pics. The elephant ear in shape of africa is interesting

If you’re a golfer the head covers or a score card holder.

One unusual but cool thing I saw was just a square piece of hide framed and hanging on the wall. It was about 30 niches square and stretched like a canvas but natural color. Very cool.

Question for all these items. Say you have a wallet or gun case made. Has anyone had problems traveling internationally with those items given the various restrictions on trophy import etc?

I will send pics once it all arrives, eta is to ship out of Namibia in late May. I do have a few pics from taxidermist that I posted below.

I had barstools from the legs/feet made, ears (plan is to get painted later, I like the Africa map), tusks, tail as flyswatter, skin panels made into 8 pistol cases and 3 overnight bags. I had skull bleached and "Namibia 2025" carved into it along with an outline of the country.

The skin panels can be made into just about any kind of leather product you can think of. I have some skin left over and I will save to either serve as a bartop covering on my home bar down the road or the wall panel behind a wall gun rack if that makes sense. Cheers

I've made several different things. The tri-fold wallet I carry every day, plus a wallet I made for a member here with hippo interior, shell bag (with about 4 other African leathers), knife sheath (with hippo and ray skin), etc. trying to buy some larger "panels" to make gun cases, rifle slings, etc.

If I ever had the opportunity to take an elephant I’d personally do:
1 elephant ear painted to be a map of Africa
1 elephant leather bound journal
Line the interior of a gun case with the leather form fitted to the rifle used
Rifle sling, potentially a rifle scabbard
Replace some of the white borders of paintings/photos with the leather
And the weird one: potentially make a football from the leather

I wonder if you could do some artwork on the framed elephant hide??

I have two Ice Buckets for my bars made from Elephant Feet (Tuskless Cow)
This little bar caddie piece holds a bottle and four rocks glasses.
I also have two umbrella stands and two large sort of stools/storage ones

Love the ice bucket! Puts it front and center to not be denied by your guests. Will have to get that on the next elephant! Cheers

Probably but the skin just looked really cool on its own. They picked a particularly interesting piece with wrinkles. The art would cover that up.

Who did you have do the bags? I like them.

Who did you have do the bags? I like them.
The Taxidermy Studio in Otjiwarango, Namibia, who Marlon Bayer is the principal of did all this stuff. I think they had someone else make the bags but I just dealt with Marlon or his daughter who works there too. Great communication from them the whole way through. I dont have the finished product in hand yet but thus far from my experience I highly recommend them.

If I could do it over I would have used my elephant skin for so many things that at the time I just did not think ahead

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
