Hey guys,

I’m wanting to head out next fall for black bear in Hyde County, NC. I’m looking for guide recommendations anyone may have.

If you've gotten a Hyde County black bear drop a pic!

Maybe we could get together this comming year do some scouting? Were also restarting the NC SCI chapter.

If you are nearby we could scout out some areas this comming year?

Several years ago I talked with Dare to Hyde Outfitters at the Houston Safari Club expo. Lots of big bears but very expensive. I thought their name was pretty clever, especially after learning Dare and Hyde are names of two counties in NC.

An outfitter in BC told me one of the drawbacks to a NC bear is the hide quality.

We have alot of game lands out that way. Ive been thinking bout scoping some out this spring.

Whats the issue with the hides?

Dare to Hyde Outfitters.

For the 25k price. What do they do different than what you can find at gamelands?
Provide the very real opportunity to collect a true world-class B&C giant. If that is not a priority...yes...there are more reasonably priced options.

Also...I would contact them about pricing...there are several options.

I have reached out a couple of times to several Hyde County operators to ask about bear hunts. I have never gotten a reply out of 5 or 6 inquiries. This happens sometimes with operators that have full bookings and aren't looking for more clients. I still think they should reply but that's on them.

Wow. Both unprofessional and inexcusable. I'm very curious to know if Dare to Hyde is one of those that have been unresponsive. I have a very good hunting amigo in NC...his In-Laws own...and run... that outfit. If so, I am very happy to pass along the critique, as someone is failing epically at their position, and I'm certain they would appreciate the heads up.
Merry Christmas GC.

Merry Christmas Spike. I don't recall and I'm not accusing them of anything. It was some years ago and I moved on to Saskatchewan and taking record book bears there and elsewhere. If you can't get into those special NC counties for bears, everyone should consider the lottery draw for swan permits. Fantastic hunting and not many trophy rooms have a tundra swan!

Good morning from the Eje Cafetero!

We hunted with CPT Purvis almost 10 years ago. This was before all the "celebrity great hunters" shot big NC bears for their shows and the prices went ridiculous.

He weighed 482 pounds and I shot him with my Merkel 9.3x74R double.

Safe hunting and Happy Christmas

Took this guy hunting with Tri County Guide Service Adam Boyd - Owner, in the northern part of Hyde County last year. I was intentionally looking for a smaller bear who would make a good rug. Not a great picture because I shot him at last light but he had big paws and a big head. I should have had him measured before the skull was sent off to be cleaned, he may make Bonne and Crocket. 405 pounds and weight were down in 2024 across NC. 4851 bears were taken in NC in 2023, of which, 2,200 were over 500 pounds.

There were 10 guys in hunt camp and all tagged out. Mine was the 2nd smallest. A father and son took two bears over 500 pounds before noon of the first day.

More big black bears are taken in the coastal region of NC than anywhere else in the world.

Great swain you took! you can tell the mature ones from the yellow in the corner of the eye and the solid white with no grey or black feathers mixed in.

I just built a trophy barn and I am going to have mine hanging from the 14 foot ceiling in a "landing" pose.

Yes, I was fortunate to take the most mature one in the pinwheel photo...at 3'o'clock position. Mine is a landing pose also...in storage currently but headed to a new house next year.

I think the issue with the hides is they are bigger than the ones the guide in Saskatchewan has, LOL. The hides are gorgeous.

I took a really big bear two years ago and didn't make a rug because his belly had a bald spot from dragging the ground but he was exceptionally big and fat.

Supposably the NC coastal bears have smaller than average heads but my big bear made the Boone and Crocket All Time list.

$25,000 is impressive. My hunt with Adam Boyd was $8,000 two years ago and several B&C bears were taken.

I am hunting with this group next year. The one on the left was 582 and the other one was 476. I think both will make Boone and Crockett with the one on the making the All-Time list. The cost is $5,000

Hello,

I saw your post selling left hand rifles. Do you have any additional pics of the .416 Rem mag?

Thank you.
