Hello from Texas

Thank you all for the well wishes! I really do not have a ton to help others at this time but with this addition maybe will in my older age.

Glad you joined. Lots of great information on this site.

Want to introduce myself, been lurking around a while, great site. I'm a newbie to Africa and this forum was highly recommended by fellows from the longrange hunting forums. I and my brother-in-law have decided to make Africa happen in 27. I have very little knowledge of hunting in Africa other than I really want to go. I'm not a wealthy man so plains game is where we will start. I have dreamed of a large Kudu my entire life. and although I'm not too old yet,55, I feel I better get that one off the list so they claim. I see there is a wealth of knowledge here and I look forward to learning what I can. Maybe down the road I'll be able to help someone else in their endeavors.
Thank you folks

You are going to fall in love with Africa and plan your return trip even before you leave... Africa has a way of impacting your life in a very special way. Africa is incredible—not just for the variety of species but also how much more you get out of a hunt compared to most American options. You and your brother in law will have a great trip- not matter where you go! At Kalahari Safari we will do all we can to make your dreams a reality! Contact us for more information - Janneman www.kalahari-safari.com (This kudu was hunted this morning by our hunter in camp)

Bob, thanks for the incite, we already plan to have the mounts shipped together, Your right, I can not, not bring home a Kudu but I wont necessarily do mounts on everything. I'm so excited about this I am certain I will try to make more trips. My wife is ok with mounts, sort of, but they need to be pretty mounts. So no wart hogs. I am not even interested in shooting another pig, at least at this time. As far as hunting together we haven't figured that out just yet. I'm a bit torn, I like to share in my friends successes but also wouldn't mid splitting it up some, I'll go which ever way he wants to go on that. We wont have any hard feelings about anything, we both want to see each other have a great time, this is about the only person I would want to go with, otherwise I would go solo. One of my questions to the outfitter will be is it possible to do a mixed hunt, in terms of some together some not. We will also be looking possiblely at different animals as he has hunted over there before. He has a cape buffalo mount, and has shot an impala and kudu but never received the mounts due to country power shifts, years ago. As far as taxidermy goes, I'll mount the pretty ones and frame good pictures of the less desirable. Here in the states, I haven't mounted too many (4), and truthfully I have only shot one true trophy animal, a mule deer all the rest I sold off to bass pro years ago. I would like to get a trophy 6x6 bull elk someday and a good moose. I love all the sheep mounts but I do not see me letting go the money to hunt one of them. So the Auodad would be the only one on the list. and I would mount that one full shoulder. I do agree its best to save the money for future trips so I will pick and choose. The experiance is the true adventure to me.
Wife is funny, she don't like me killing animals but she likes eating them, she wants the meat in nice white butcher paper and doesn't want to participate in the processing. She doesn't want to see the animal shows that display one animal killing and other, she looks away. She is not a fan of displaying dead animals on the wall and is not remotely interested in a non hunting safari nor going with me as a non hunter. All that being said, she has never tried to get in the way of me hunting or fishing and claims she doesn't understand it but supports me doing 'what she calls" what I need to do. Of course I don't question her understanding and just go hunting.
I just realized she has interfered in hunting. She has sworn me off of dispatching stray cats! haha
You can hunt Aoudad in the East Cape in South Africa;) Not as big as the ones raised on ranches in Texas but for me at least the experience was huge! Free range herd with Black Wildebeest running about and vaal rheebok in the hills. Big property with a fence that had collapsed so very free range. Great views too :)

I had never hunted in Africa before and finally decided to book a hunt. I was so fortunate to discover Kalahari Safari. I hunted with them last week and I'm working on details for a return trip. The people, accommodations, food, and hunting experience is top notch! I can't wait to return.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
