Nice, but most of the gunsmiths around here scratch their heads about getting a rail scope mounted. No doubt it is a superior method, though.

I've just gone through this route myself and built up the correct german mounts. To do it yourself, its about $450 for the mounts from EAW or Recknagel in Germany. It takes thoughtful measuring, but a person with patience and a good caliper can figure out the correct pivot mounts to make a scope like this work. New England Custom Gun can build the correct mounts for this gun in pivot mount format at $500-$600. A claw mount for about $1200-$1400. Here's a link to the limitless possible mounting options that exist to put this scope on virtually any gun properly: http://www.eaw.de/assets/files/2017/EAWsm_gb2017.pdf

It's a great scope and should be considered. Had I not already purchased rings for the pivot system and had the sunk costs, I would have been a likely customer.

If your drilling or combo has never had a scope mount installed then a pivot mount is cheaper and more versatile. If you already have a claw type installed on the gun then I would stick with that set up. It is not every day you see a scope of this vintage that is NIB and I sure that I will regret selling it one of these days.

Because the height of my claw mounts are for a 1" tube on the 14mm rail. The height is different and won't work.

@Moosemind take a look at your rail and claws carefully. Are they EAW or Recknagel? If yes, you may be able to get an offset shim to allow them to work correctly. I've done this myself. Mark at NECG stocks many of these parts so you don't have to wait for an import.

I apologize for not updating the listing but this scope was sold a couple of months ago.

Thanks Troy. I will get some pictures of my 8x68S to NECG and make sure everything is compatible.

@JOSEPH DILLON Mark Cromwell at NECG will have everything you need to be compatible, you only need to provide him with the scope and a tape mark on the stock where your eye and the objective bell of the scope need to be located. You can use other gunsmiths, but you'll pay more because NECG is the parts importer that all the other gunsmiths have to buy the product from. Another gunsmith will order higher mounts than you need because they cannot afford to make an error and pay a restocking fee, whereas NECG has hundreds of shims and rings in stock to get it the absolute lowest height possible.

He will then use Rechnagel components for your specific scope and gun to achieve this (plan on $700 for the top-quality work) :

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
