Field report for the 460WBY and the 375H&H

No doubt. Called weatherby custom shop today to order the +1 bottom metal. $230 for the ability to have 3 in the mag. Also talked to my gunsmith and I'm.goin to have a barrel band sling swivel put on as well as a front sight to go with my aperture sight that mounts on the picatinny rail.

100% I'm a 460wby guy all the way now. I mean why shoot anything else when you can swing the BIG HAMMER. Ha ha.
Are you able to load the .460 down a bit for practice or not for fear of hangfires?

I'm running just a touch above the minimum load which is getting me around 2410fps. I have found that load to be pretty reasonable on recoil and I think its the load I'll hunt with too. I mean if 2400fps with a 500gr bullet ain't gonna get it done nothing is. I've manged hits as far out as 400yds so far. Not trying to shoot a buffalo at 400yds but you know " aim small miss small".

Nice. The reason I asked about the reduced loads in the .460 and other large bottleneck cases, is I've read where they are subject to hangfires with reduced loads, as opposed to straight walled large capacity cases like the Lott where that isn't an issue?

Ha! Ha! But no shooting while laying on your back!
I got to defend myself...the squirrel has a skateboard!

We'll see in six months where you're at. Do keep us appraised of your practice and field use.

The above is the approximate external ballistics of your experiment. That .45/70 (.163 BC)bullet has such a low BC that it pisses away energy like gasoline leaks out of a Dixie cup. Wow what a beautiful muzzle blast and Lord help anything thin skinned that got hit with it.

This is the .458 socom tac tx bullet which is .236 vs. .234 of the 300 grain flat base spitzer tsx.

I can shoot that son of a bitch prone, sitting, upside down, anyway you want me to. You just have to put your purse down.
@Backyardsniper
Does that mean you can still keep your frilly pink knickers on if you put your handbag down.

Judging by the loving and adoring moniker which you have given your rifle, it's a real peach to shoot. Personally I'd like to see the upside down shooting. I'm pretty sure they aren't going to like you firing a cannon while dangling from the local monkey bars. That muzzle is slapping into the dirt so hard. :E Lol:

I have some 525 gr lead slugs and I would like to work up some reduced loads for fun. Those would be all kinds of fun
Two words: Trail Boss.

A quite mild load would still give you better than 460 S&W performance. There’s something delightful about the big rifles shooting these kinds of loads. On the one end, it’s like shooting a cap gun. On the other end, it’s like an absurdly overpowered hunting handgun.

Matt's bullets has a 730gr wide flat nose for the .458s, it would be neat to see how fast that 460 could push that bullet.

The 458s already have big sectional densities, that 730 is almost a 500 sectional density, would be another interesting experiment, maybe see if you can line 3 does up end to end and put it through all.
