When in Mozambique I learned that not only did the Outfitter put all elephant bones from the animals they hunted in one area on his concession, he also gathered bones from any elephant that was poached or simply died on the concession.
He clarified that elephants don't like running into the bones of deceased elephants and it seems to have an impact on their travel patterns. So, to keep them calm he gathers all bones and puts them in one place.
Interesting fact. The biggest bull elephant & ivory he found dead on the concession had a hole through the skull & brain from another elephant bull's tusk!
