Dropped the deer of my lifetime on Monday

Just saw this, congratulations! Muzzleloader season is short too.

I used to live 15min from that town, and I never saw anything like that, wowza! Big difference from Kentucky in the 90’s.

Congrats. That's approximately 3x the size of the largest buck I've ever seen in my neck of the woods (NJ)
The biggest buck I ever killed before this one was a 15 inch 9 point. I never see deer like this.

Congrats on your outstanding buck, it's incredible! I really hope to see this animal featured next year in the Kentucky Afield magazine and read your story. Some of the biggest bucks of 2024 were premiered in the lastest edition.

Do not let my poor humor take away from your amazing deer, but part of me was hoping it was shot with a .243! LOL
Oh how that would have caused a few strokes. LOL

Now, wouldn’t wish that on him but I’m all for stirring @Bob Nelson 35Whelen about the .243

A mate confirmed that 2 Sambar were taken with a .243 recently and that didn’t change his views.

In a thread on the .358win Bob has chimed in about its virtues. It sounds like there is something magical or mythical about .35 calibres.

Obviously muzzle loaders are effective too.

Right there with you. Hunted 30 years really hard and biggest is a 135.
The amazing sales pitch for a high fence Michigan deer camp was "what's the biggest deer you ever shot/what have you spent trying so far?!" An eye opener when viewed that way. Made the trophy ranch seem cheap by comparison.

Only started getting trailcam pics of him this year. The weird thing is all his trailcam pics were daylight pics. No night pics.
Probably learned from experience he could get up late, move around at midday when all the hunters were back in camp, and lay down for a nap afterwards. They pattern us better than we pattern them!

Wow, congrats! Kentucky has been producing some giants for a while. Glad you ran into one!

Do we know if it is a state muzzle loader record??
The typical (which this guy is not) state record for Kentucky muzzleloader is 204 2/8 inches, The largest non-typical buck harvested by a hunter was a 260 1/8-inch buck. So my deer, at 209 7/8, is really not that close.

It’s probably close.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
