Which would better for one km target shooting ??

Both much the same

If they both shoot the same size group give or take. The things to focus on for long range are the SDs of the ammo you are shooting. If that is the same, availability, and then price. Gravity is the same, that drop is easy compared to wind. Wind will take a while to read and even the very best still miss the calls. That is when your execution of fundamentals comes into play. Reading the bullet splash and make adjustments on the fly.

I would think that if everything is equal, having a higher ballistic coefficient in the heavier bullet would be my choice. It would be better in the wind.

I would certainly shoot at that range with both bullets and confirm they are all equal.

Thank you. My shooting friend Ron (uses 300 too) uses 240 grain bullets - had to have some throat of his barrel chewed out though. I don't wan to do that.

For 1KM you are splitting hairs, they difference between the two bullets or any bullet you are looking at. Will come into play when you hit Transsonic speed, some bullets transition better than others. With what you are running I'm guessing is @ or beyond 1760 yards (1 mile).

Now I am premising this based on target shooting and not competitions. Competition play I try to take every advantage I possibly can to put points on the board.

I think they are both close to each other. I compared both, using 2950fps for the 195 and 2875fps for the 208. There drops seemed close as did there windage but the extreme spread showed only 4 inch drop difference and .02 MOA windage (10mph FV) extreme spread difference at a 1km for the 195 ELD-M as opposed to the 9 inch drop and .04 MOA wind extreme spread difference for the 208 ELD-M. I am not a competition shooter and used QuickLoad for some data. I have no clue what your muzzle velocity is. Toss a coin.

I see many people get wrapped around the axle with running numbers. In truth most people can't out shoot their gear. That is not a dig on anyone. It is just things I have noticed in classes. When you can shoot to the level of your gear, then you can see the differences in bullets. Otherwise it is really something that is always eating away at the back of your mind and you go no where because you are worried about the wrong things. IMHO watching students come through and talking with new people at matches.

Not competition
Correct

Hornady certainly has good data available on their site regarding G1 and G7 BC's....and they recommend using Mach 1.75 at distances beyond 550 meters but it doesn't seem to matter much in my calculations. BTW.....that is a long COAL....what rifle are you using? My Sako limits at 3.55 and there is a lot of that 208 grainer inside the case, really limits velocity for me............FWB

I'm using a Remington 700 action and stock - the rest - gunsmith installed a 24 inch s/s/ barrel & Timney trigger.

This action was originally a Weatherby 300

Velocities as measured by Lab Radar

195 Gran ->> 3005; 3001; 3007

208 Grain ->> 2949; 2963; 2945

No high pressure signs at all in fact

Not sure your price range. Have a 375 H&H with a muzzle brake. Nice rifle only fired a few times. Also a Mossberg 375 Ruger its been used and shows a few hunts on it.
