All fake fur. The closeness is remarkable. Initially developed as a substitute to satisfy the cultural needs.

Not every hunt results in a treed leopard, even in the rich coastal forests of Mozambique. Equally not every leopard that is tracked and brought to bay must be darted, in high risk situations we just call the hounds off and leave the cat be. Even on bowhunts we have had to do this, especially where the bowhunter refuses a rifle backup.

Heightened adrenaline can interfere with the delivery of the drug.

The result for the hunter is an opportunity to hunt several cats until the suitable situation is achieved.

Bullthrower, that is a Jaguar............ but a beauty none the less.........

Interesting idea.

Here is the synthetic leopard I just got back from my taxidermist, there is something wrong with it that I can not put my finger on it!!!View attachment 39952

LOL exactly my 1st thought. Although it may be tough to find, I'm sure there is the odd leopard hide available for sale if someone wanted a mount to remember the accomplishment, this would of course need to be calculated in the true cost of the hunt.

Hound hunting would be very exciting but I don't think the darting thing would be for me.

I would be interested in this idea, especially if the cost is less than the real thing. Hunting leopard with dogs seems like a great hunt and doing so with the darts probably would just add to the excitement.

I would not have any interest in the synthetic skin though. Also agree that "green hunt" is kind of a stupid description.

For sure Gavin it can be interesting as long is not like a Lynx hunt with hounds when you waiting in the bakkie until its up in a tree and then walk up with a 22 or shotgun to finish the poor cat...

Pre baiting for some weeks, and with good organization and a couple of trail-cams you do not have to wait more than 2 hours until that exiting moment when a shadow of the cat is climbing up to the bait... For me this is a pure magical moment....

Wish you good luck with this, interesting with new things for sure, should be interesting to see how a "green" full mounted Leo looks ? That one that Bullthrower shared looks like the taxidermist miss something ;)

I think it would be exciting and adrenalin charged, still a lot of money though.

I believe it is the squeaker in the mouth so your dogs can play with it. After all it is their trophy too. :)

KMG, I like your thinking, but no way am I doing an elephant with hounds..presume the wording was just wrong.

Pretty sure he was just referring to Leopard as part of the big 5. All the others would certainly be a train wreck with dogs.

So I voted no, but here is why. I just don't see the need, for me. A leopard hunt isn't that far out of reach (like a rhino) and the price delta isn't enough (again like rhino). Now if the price was $2k, MAYBE I'm interested. I'd have to know much more about the safety precautions etc...

I'm not doubting that this would be exciting and would have no problem with it being done, just not sure it is for me, with a dart.

Now hunting leopard with dogs and a rifle. Well.... I've emailed with Gavin in the past for a reason. ;)
