Courteney Croc boots Review

Hey All, I wanted to take a moment as I know footwear has had a lot of discussion here on AH, I’ve seen alot about sizing,models,brands,etc. I’ve searched before posting and could not located any information or feedback, reviews on the Safari boot in Crocodile by Courteney, as a owner of a pair of there boots, I would only expect there great craftsmanship in the Crocodile boot as in any other of there products, I’m looking for maybe a fellow member that owns a pair and see some photos of how they wear and patina, break in period with the crocodile, is it more so of a dressy option rather than a shunting boot(aka flashy)? Flashy/dressy for me. I typically wear them at events like DSC or SCI and wore them ti some business meetings. African Sporting Creations sent me 3 pair before I got the size and fit right. To me they could have the lace up hooks go up higher. Decent fit for walking the shows but wouldn't be my first choice on a hunt. But everyone's feet are different. I don't think they show any real wear and definitely not any patina yet. I think they are definitely more comfortable now that I've worn them many times versus the first 3 days I wore them at DSC. So I would say they broke in adequately pretty quickly.

I had the hippo, and I have had croc in other boots other than Courtney. They aren't going to last like Hippo, but they will give you good service.

If you are looking for a tough boot this isn't it.

Thanks I appreciate the reply and personal knowledge of the product, I’m definitely looking for something to use in the field and in the office/everyday use.

Is the hippo boots easy to break in ?

Not in any way shape or form. Imagine a pair of plastic ski boots. Same thing.

I punished myself and wore them daily for several years during the part of the year I didn't wear flip flops.

They eventually got comfortableish.

Any time I didn't wear them constantly they would revert to being ski boots again.

Tons of mink oil, seal oil and everything else. Didn't matter.

Never wore them out. Took them to good will after I polished them up and put new laces in. Someone can get another 100,000 miles out of them.

I have had elephant cowboy boots, kind of a similar situation.

Here is what Gail taught me along with Lou…The “polish” that comes with the boots is not polish but saddle soap meaning you put it on almost every day and wear them until the jar is gone…five days for me. On my boots I was pleasantly shocked to find how that perfectly broke in the boots taking all the stiffness out. Also much more than American cow leather these skins; hippo, elephant and cape buffalo need to be kept so that a small amount of for lack of a better word, moisture stays in them so they do not dry out. It took me three pair of these boots before I asked and found out the above to get great success with mine along with my ordering my own high arch support…now very happy!!!!

I have a selous boot in buffalo suprised the softness right out the box, was wanting a safari model and hippo struck me was just wondering how it was to break in but Hey thanks for the tip, Ima pop that can open and get to wearing and using. I can on imagine how much more comfortable they will get.

I don't think you will be happy if that is the case. But good luck to you.

They will never get there. They are stiff as F. Mine were 10 years old when I finally got rid of them. I wore them 150 days a year or more (in the evening and weekend as I was in the military)

So you say buffalo is the way to go?

My buffalo ones are super soft, and they were great out of the box.

Cleat or Tyre sole?

I have the hippo. Cannot say they are the greatest but they are ok .Wear them for semi dress up to town and never had any problems. They are a little wide but not uncomfortable.

Since you are possibly looking outside croc now , I have buff /kudu. Leather is soft enough, but my one hit against Courtney is the weight of my boots. I'd say they are 3xs heavier than the current, modern hiking boot. Maybe even slightly more than a pair of full cowboy-style boots. I think it's the sole that adds so much extra weight. While they may last longer than my vehicle tires, they seemingly are made from the same rubber ( I know the legend says there actually were when they started out).

Cleat or Tyre sole?

Old tire sole, but they are at a cobbler in town here getting new soles. Not because they needed it, but because I wear them unevenly.
