Barnes LRX performance

My MV is correct. 3,220 measured over a chronograph. Altitude is about 4,000 feet and will match my CDS turret pretty closely. It’ll be warmer than I used for setup but that won’t matter enough to matter as far as I expect to shoot.

While I’m very comfortable shooting paper as fas as 750 yards (farthest I’ve shot it and shot about < 5” group out there) I’ll have to be extremely solid to shoot past 400 on this hunt. Huge trophy fee at Tondwa, so I’ve gotta be 100% sure before touching the trigger. $10k riding on the shot.
I was thinking Tondwa when I read your post. I’m booked there for 28. Supposed to be an amazing sitatunga concession where you can pick and choose the best bull. Apparently one of the few where spot and stalk is possible plus roan, sable, eland in the same concession. Hoping buffalo will be on quota then as well.

Then you will carry even more velocity than my estimates. So bullet performance will not be an issue. I’d practice with the same rest I’ll use on the hunt and set my max range based on my ability to be accurate. Good luck!

Dan,

I think your pet load should work just fine. I don't think you are going to have to shoot much beyond 300. Johnny like a lot of PHs would prefer you to shoot closer than further to avoid a messy follow up. In your case though I'm sure it will be a bang flop!

I haven't used the LRX, but I do have some TTSXs worked up for my .257 Wby. Very accurate at the range, but haven't had the opportunity to try them on game yet.

I had great results with the 168 grain Nosler ETip out of a .300 WSM. Dropped a muley on the spot at 326 yards. Golf ball sized exit hole. We have to use lead-free for everything here in CA, so I'm always looking for good options.
