450 Dakota - New Brass
500 Grain Swift A-Frames.
H4350 - 100 Grains.
Federal GM215M
COAL - 3.701
2296 FPS

50 Yard First. To validate new scope.

Finished with 100 Yard Zero. Same results.

Last night I loaded 10 rounds of 500 Grain Swift Break-Aways with same recipe.

I’ll shoot those next Saturday to confirm results. My shoulders need a rest.

I shot from a bench using a rifle rest that was very stable and has padded V rests and adjustable elevation at both ends. Open butt so I could get a firm rest on my shoulder. Only downside was having to shoot from a sitting bench. Little sore today…

I also had several boxes of various loaded ammunition to include custom loaded of Woodleigh, Barnes, Cutting Edge, Swift that came with the rifle and some I picked up that was loaded by one of our members. I shot from 4 boxes ranging from 400 grains to 550 grains. I shot 2 rounds from 4 different boxes and recorded velocity and results at 50 yards. All grouped well at 50 yards with speed from 2283 to 2474 FPS. I still have 6 boxes to test. Unfortunately, I have no load data from those boxes.

That's a lot of options and I can definitely see the need to give your shoulder a break. That's the great thing about the 458, there's a huge range of options on bullets depending on preference and intended game. You have the ability to make a great one gun safari rifle if you choose to do so. Keep us posted on your results.
