Hi Folks, I’m looking for some help/advice from the collective wisdom here on AH. I have a beautiful piece of art that belongs to my sister’s estate and I am hoping to get some advice on what the value may be. I intend to post it initially in the AH classifieds but I have no idea where to even start with an asking price. I have attempted to contact Mr. Hacking with no luck. Please take a look at the pics attached below.
Here’s some basic info and a short bio of the artist. Many of you may be familiar with him from some features in Gray’s Sporting Journal and elsewhere.

Artist - Grant Hacking
South African born artist, Grant Hacking specializes in North American and African big game. Growing up in South Africa provided Grant with the unique ability to authentically portray the richness and vastness of the varied African landscape and wildlife. Grant’s passion for painting started early in life growing up in a household with parents who were both professional artists. Grant now resides in New England and previously lived in Charleston, SC providing bountiful inspiration for North American portrayals of wildlife and land and seascapes. Grant’s paintings can be found internationally in museums and in the private collections of business executives, celebrities, politicians, artists, and the everyday art appreciator.
Grant is the official artist of International Wildlife Crime Stoppers helping to raise awareness and funds for the prevention of poaching. Honors at SEWE include: Winner of the 2018 Editor’s Choice Award presented by American and Western Art Collector, Featured Artist 2015, Best of Show 1st Place Two Dimensional, Best of Show 1st Runner-Up, VIP Choice 1st Place Two Dimensional, VIP 2nd Place Two Dimensional.

This piece of art is 30”x40” Oil on Canvas. It is an original, 01 of 01 and is marked as such. It was commissioned in 2008 and completed in 2009.
The name of the piece is: Calling to the Valley

Grant Hacking’s larger originals like your 30”x40” oil often sell in the $5,000 to $15,000 range depending on subject and detail. For posting in the AH classifieds, starting somewhere in that range and being open to offers would be reasonable. If you want a more precise valuation, a gallery that represents his work could give you a solid estimate.

He attends the SCI shows and sells there.
The best thing to do is actually contact him and ask his advice. He may have a buyer himself or a gallery that represents him. He has an active email list where he lists all his new paintings.
As stated above…he sells his originals for several thousand dollars and up.
Art is also…very subjective…

^ what he said. As a collector of Western and Wildlife art, I stop and speak with him every year at SCI. Very nice gentleman as well as a very prolific artist.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
