I have had a handful of you email me questions about which bullets fragment, which ones retain weight, etc...
A while back we produced an episode of television completely about how different bullets, perform very differently upon impact than other bullets.
They are all made very differently from each other and you can really only see it when you shoot a ballistics gelatin block in high speed video.
Anyone who is interested in this video can click this link:

This video is strictly for educational purposes and we don't recommend any one of them in particular, however we recommend you select your bullet based on how you want a bullet to perform upon impact with an animal.

I think something that is often neglected in terminal ballistics is the effect of twist rate as well as retained velocity through the target.

Re: twist rate

Twist rate, especially with monos like TSX greatly assists in maximum expansion at a given velocity. It helps "spin the bullet open" for lack of a better phrase. A 1/7 twist, for example, will open up a 55gr TSX far better than a 1/12, especially near the bottom of the expansion envelope velocity wise. When you get into heavy subsonic in 8.6, etc the effects of a 1/3 or 1/5 twist are profoundly visible in slow motion gel blocks vs 1/8.

Re: Velocity through the target

When a bullet retains higher velocity through the target, temporary stretch cavity is able to be a wounding mechanism for further along the bullets path.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
