9.3x64 reloading data

I will be following with great interest as my next build is the 9.3 x 64. I found a good supply of brass and am set to go.

I have a fair bit of powder but no 17 and just a little H4350. I'll keep my eyes open for those.

On a side note, I regularly drive past Pacific Tool and Guage. It's fun for me to see our local companies mentioned in international threads.

I will be following your thread as this is a build in the planning stages. I currently have rws brass with plenty of projectiles from my 9.3x62 and will soon be ordering reloading dies from simplex here in Oz. I've not settled on the action to use yet as I have a couple of sporter m17 rifles or an old mauser action, one will be a 318 westley richards. I've not selected a barrel or smith for the 9.3x64 build yet.

Mate you could always use the same gunsmith both @K95 and I use, plus he is a master with M17 actions. He built my 35AI on a trimmed down M17 into a Remington model 30 style action and I saw the the 500 he built on a M17.

No I didn't marry the first gir I kissed or the 100th but we are talking guns not women. Just because you can get a bang out of both they are different.
You found the Whelen and loved it now you want to trade it for more glamour. As @K95 said cases, loaded ammo and suitable projectiles are hard to come by and expensive. Just like a high maintenance wife.
The Whelen on the other hand is readily available in brass, loaded ammo and cheap suitable projectiles. It is the low maintenance, reliable woman that won't let you down if you do your part.
That's the type of cartridge you want in your battery not some glamorous European model that will end up costing you more to do the same job.
Yes the grass may be greener in the other paddock but the old lawnmower will still cut the grass.

Looks like you have enough brass to do you a lifetime, and as Bob said I have a reamer that’s available. Actually when the 9.3 x64 was released back it 1925 ( I think ) there were no rifles being chambered for the cartridge. American hunter who wanted a 9.3 cal were very disadvantaged and very few 62’s were available. To solve this problem they sent 64 reamers to US gunsmiths at no cost . I feel it is my solemn duty as a 9.3 fan to offer the same courtesy.
while there are some similarities between the 35 W and the 9.3 x62 there’s a big difference between the 9.3x64. Trust me there’s nothing wrong with the racy European models be it rifles or woman, infact I’m very taken to the gorgeous long legged model I have at home.

I am caretaking a lefty Ruger 9.3X64 that belongs to my best friend. His dad built it years ago. Too nice to drag out into the saltwater environment where I live as it is beautifully blued. Maybe one day. Fun to shoot, akin to 375 H&H, considerably more wallop than my Whelens.

Really good info here. The x64 is a monster of a cartridge. I’ve never known anyone to have one who didn’t also have a shit-eating grin because of the performance they can get from them.

Load your Whelens properly then there ain't nothing in it.
In the Whelen I load the 250s to 2,700fps.
Doing some load development with the 275s and 310s.
Hoping to get 2,500++ FPS with the 275s and push 2,400fps with the 310s.

I found years ago that the old x Barnes use to foul sometime terrible, but my old mate Nick didn’t have any problems. Those old original bullets were fairly tough bullets. Performance close to a solid if you didn’t have a lot of speed. Meet a American in Africa at about the time they were released. He was shooting a Ruger 270 his father gave him for his 21 at birthday years before. He shot everything with them and I’m talking big five.

I have enough of that magical powder to last my lifetime and part of my son's after I'm gone. I've been reading that Re17 isn't bad in it either so if I ever run out I can hit you up for some 17 at a fair price.
A lot of folks over the pond have discovered that magic powder for the Whelen.

Prying Rel 17 out of my hands would be much the same as you parting with yours. It’s so hard to get . I’d go so far to say that Reloader 15 would be better in the Whelan. 17 works better with a case capacity of around 80 grs , working weight 75 grs.

Just been loading some 9.3 x 62 for the new editor of sporting shooter. He has just returned from smashing some scrub bulls up in the territory. Another happy camper.
