9.3x62mm

In some countries. Some countries have a minimum of .375 (South Africa), others have no legal minimum, some have a minimum energy.

All this info comes from the Hunting Info by Country section of Africahunting.com

South Africa
Most provinces do not have a minimum equipment requirement for rifle hunting and rely on common sense.
- Some provinces require a minimum of .375 caliber for dangerous or big game hunting.

Zimbabwe
- Class A Game
5300 Joule
Minimum caliber 9.2mm in diameter
(Elephant, Hippo, Buffalo)

Namibia
Namibia does not have a minimum caliber requirement for rifle hunting and rely by law on minimum energy (Eo - muzzle velocity). Smallest caliber recommended by NAPHA 7 mm (.284).
- Minimum energy (Eo - muzzle velocity)
Big Game
5400 Joule
(Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Rhino, Lion, etc.)

Mozambique
- There is no minimum equipment requirement for rifle hunting in Mozambique.
- Mozambique does not require a minimum energy (Eo - muzzle velocity) for calibers used.

I took a long, hard look at that cartridge and finally decided that, as the .375 could be taken anywhere, it was the rifle for me. However that's still a great round and maybe, someday, I'll get one.

Also, you can check with the guide while you're trying to get a hunt booked. I've talked to several who are fine with it, including this site's owner (he guides for 2 different outfits in Namibia, in case you weren't aware). I've talked to several others who are fine with it. I'm not sure I'd want to risk an elephant with a 9.3, though plenty have been harvested with it.

For cats, it's more than fine as long as you don't use solids. In 250 gr, Swift, Barnes, Nosler, Norma, and Woodleigh are all probably excellent choices.

If I go over for buffalo, I'll work up loads for Swift 300 gr or Woodleigh 320 gr.

But like I said...when you're shopping for hunts, ask the guides. I've not had a conversation with a single one of them that wasn't perfectly cordial and professional. They all seem to be Old World Gentlemen.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
