9.3x62

Hopefully I’ll use my 9.3x62 this year on buff. Got woodleigh 286gr PPSP and woodleigh 286gr hydros as well as Barnes solids if I run out of woodleigh. Also got a 9.3x64 that I’ll use 320gr PPSP in some time and also 300 gr a frames.

Hi there
Just wondering what load you use in the 9.3 x 64 with the 300 gr A frame and do you know the velocity.

I have loaded up some 286 gr hornady with I think 59grs of 2208/varget but I haven’t got a chance to shoot it yet. Im not going to load it hot

I have just been given an unopened 5 lb keg of Reloader 12. This powder has been discontinued and no longer available. I was told by the previous owner that it was especially good in the 308 win. Does anyone know anything about this powder or have used it . I know it is quite fast in its burning rate. I now have just bought a 20” 9.3x62 and was thinking it may be ok in the short barrel . Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

I have done quite a bit of reloading with this caliber. I found that 2208 was great with the 250 gr bullet. 2209 is better with the 286 gr. Here are a few loads to give you an idea. These were developed in a Blaser with a 22” barrel and no pressure signs in my rifle.
286 gr woodleigh
2209. 72 gr 2508
2209. 73 gr. 2543
2209. 74 gr. 2588
2209. 75 gr. 2627
2209. 76 gr. 2650
Hope this helps
Have some good loads with 2208 with the 250 gr if you are interested.

I've only had my 9.3x62 for a short while now & only got to hunt with it for 4 days this last season. It's quickly becoming/become my favorite medium bore. Even possibly better than the .358 win I've doted on for years.
It very permanently let the air out of these 3 does!
285gr Prvi over 64gr of Big Game for 2350fps out of a 20" barrel. It's no screamer, but it hits HARD.

Thanks for that and I’m guessing that rel15 . I already have some good loads for that. It Rel 12 I’m interested in.

Yes they do the job. You’re getting around factory velocities of the 9.3x62. If you ever go after dangerous game you have around a extra 300 fps to play with.

K95, A little more research.
Hornaday reloading manual 8th edition copyright 2010, pg 493.
.308 Win, RL12 150-155gr bullets
Test Rifle, Win. Mod 70, 22” bbl, 1-12 twist.
RL12
Starting load 38.6gr, vel 2300fps.
Mid load 41.9gr, 2500fps.
MAX LOAD 45.1gr, vel 2700fps.
Hope this is helpful.
AS ALWAYS start with beginning charges & work up in your rifle.
This is why I NEVER throw away an old reloading manual, I am often looking at them for data not in newer manuals.

I LOVE the 9.3! All three of them! Used Barnes TSX bullets in a 9,3x74 in a double gun for elk and had a ball! Reloader 15 or H4350 offer best performance and accuracy. Next up! 9.3 Brenneke!

Hi F. Vaccaro
Well done I checked back to Hornady’s 3 rd edition and it wasn’t mentioned in it . I keep the old ones too

What about a 9.3x70 DWM

I’m going to try Rel 12 in the 9.3 x 62. Have tried it in the 64 with 250 gr pills but it was a tad quick. Thinking in the 62 with the lighter pill should be good. Let you know the results.

Spent the day on the range trying different loads in my 20” 9.3 x62. Using the 250 gr woodleigh pp and the Nosler Accubond. Powders tested were Varget or 2208 if you live in god’s country, Alliant Reloader 12 and Adi 2206H or equivalent H4895. Everyone raves about Varget being the best powder for the 250 gr, but after my results 2206H gave the best velocity. 60 gr of Varget gave 2455 fps where 60 gr of 2206H returned 2553 fps a increase of nearly 100 fps. I settled on 59 grs for a comfortable 2527 fps. Interesting to see what other Varget users might get with 2206H or H 4895. My loads were safe in the 20” Sako Barvarian.

These are some generalizations based on my loading:

I have found that Varget often performs best when the appropriate load results in some compression. This often occurs with .223 and .308.
On the other hand, H4895 often gives better accuracy than Varget if there is space left in the case.

60 grains of Varget works well with a 250 Accubond in my 9.3x62. I haven't tried much H4895 in this rifle because it's been hard to replace my H4895 supply.

In my experience, H4895 is usually faster than Varget. This varies with cartridge and load but can be 2 grains faster.

Yesterday I tried 59 gr of 2206h with 250 gr nosler Accubonds and 250 gr Atomic 29’s. The Nosler was doing 2542 fps and the copper atomic was averaging 2500 fps. I’m sure an animal wouldn’t know the difference.
2.5” high at 100 yds is spot on at 200 yds. 4.5” low at 250 and 10” low at 300 yds. I think this is a realistic range for a 20” barrel 9.3 x62. If I want more range I can always use my 9.3x64 which drives a 250 gr Atomic at 2880fps.

I love my 9.3. I've only been to Africa once ( going back next year), but it accounted for zebra, warthog, gemsbok, blue wildebeest, kudu, Impala and sable. All taken with only 1 shot each, ranging from 35 yards to 128 yards. I used factory loaded Nosler 286 grain Partitions. The rifle is a CZ 550 American. Powerful cartridge and accurate rifle.
