I’m am plaining on building a 585 nyati rifle out of a 1917 endfield action and I’m not completely sure was all goes into it. I know that you have to open the face of the bolt up for magnum and I also know you have to rebarrel it for the new caliber.what other modifications do I have to do to the receiver for this conversion to work ?

The receiver will have to be opened up for a longer magazine box and and the feed rails will have to be tweaked/widened as well. If you start with a P-14 receiver the feed rails will not have to be opened as much, but will most likely still require some work. The P-14 receiver has a wider magazine and feed rails for the rimmed 303 cartridge, but either one will have to be lengthened.

Does the entire receiver have to to be lengthened or is it just the magazine area same for the width

Well then in addition you need to get brass for it. The brass is hard to get and exprnsive. Insted what do you think about 550 magnum. 550 magnum can be built based on 460 wetherby brass blown out or 505 gibbs blown out. Brass is much easier to get. It shoots 700gr bullets at 2400 ft/sec. How ever you have to open up the recever. Rails need to be opened up.new barrel. For 550 magnum pacnor barrels have prints and can make you one. Neal sherly of Arizona designed it. He can be contacted gor further details. If you need his info send me a PM.
HERE is a picture him holding the rifle in a safari convention. It was built by AHR. It can be built on CZ 550 SAFARI MAGNUM ACTION ALSO. AHR HAS SOME ACTIONS FOR SALE.
I have this particular rifle. CZ 550 416 rigby action works with same brass as 460 wby with out belt. So minimum work required. Also more power and sectional density for penetration.

No the receiver does not have to be lengthened, just the magazine box opening and possibly the bolt stop modified for a bit more travel. The Enfield 1917 and P-14 receivers are large and long enough to build some real cannons, but not without opening up the magazine.

Oh ok I get thanks for clarifying. On a separate note do you think the 1917 endfield action can be built to fire 600 overkill or is that just too much or too big for that action ?

Oh nice rifle man I’ll give that some thought.

Same advice Krish gave me. So I built a 550 Magnum on an Enfield 1917 action (Which I do not regret). It shoots amazing. Who need more than 10,000 ft lbs of muzzle energy?

I also bought two 585 Nyati projects and bought brass from Bertram in Australia. So I have a lot of brass, bullets, 2 reamers, go/nogo gauges, and two barrels. That said they may be spoken for I won't know until Monday. I opened up a P14 boltface and did not like how little material was left, so I pivoted away from the 585 Nyati to the 550 magnum.

All of that is aside from getting Doctors advice to avoid heavy recoiling firearm, and then starting to explore alternative powder loads. Going to try some 5744 and paper patching.

Anyway if you wanna talk about it pm your number and I'll give you a call and tell ya what I know from both projects.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
