For those of you that reload the 450 N.E. could you share what bullets and powder you get the best results with. Does anyone use 500 grain swift aframes with good results?

I have a brand new Heym 89B imported from Europe and Imr3031 is working well with Swift A-frames in 500gr. I have a few boxes of 450gr but have yet to try. Running out of time to put loads together
as I leave for Tanzania in 5 weeks. I have VV135 yet to try which is almost interchangeable with 3031
and is very temperature stable and super clean. Both powders at about 70gr match the original 70gr
cordite load.

Thank you for the info I wish they would publish info for IMR 3031. I know Ken Owen and JJ Perodeau recommend it. Also I have used it in my 470NE. but no publisbed data that I have been able to find.

I loaded 500gr Hornady DGX over 95gr H4831 for a friend.
One shot on a male lion and done.
I know the DGX has a bit of a reputation but on a cat seemed to be as good as any expanding 500gr 458.
Also, his rifle was regulated for that load.
He used the same on a few other plains game animals on that trip.

The original 450 NE was regulated with 480gr bullets, 70gr Cordite for approx 2150fps.... Wright's book has loads for RL15, H4350 and H4831... I have tried IMR3031 and was not happy with the result ... I have been shooting with great success on Buff and Eles CEB's 450gr Safari Raptors and their 480gr Solids to same POA POI..

Thanks great info I will look into them.

Dave, I could use both of them if still available. I just picked up a new .22 mag and a .22 pump that they would be perfect on.

Dan who is C. W. Richter? He seems to not be a fan of myself!
