Of course I clicked on this when I saw '45-70'... :p

I have never used it. I mostly shoot handloads. Their website says medium game and 1850 fps (barrel length?), so...

I am sure others have used it and can weigh in. The only factory ammo I have used is the Hornady LEVER. I like it.

Yeah was waiting for you to jump in :E Big Grin: ...I was kinda expecting it to be the hornady ones as he also gets quite a bit from them...but also federal....I know he said in past has tried but never showed up in the order...so just happy actually got any type at all :A Thumbs Up:

I don't have any experience with that ammo specifically but i have taken 5 deer with my marlin 1895gbl 45-70 all at about 80-100yards or maybe a little bit more. It wallops them to say the least, never had to track one even with not the best shot placement, I tend to shoot a lil high sometimes with my ghost ring ironsights but the caliber has a pension for breaking spines when hitting near it, at least in my experience. Got my nice nine pointer with it. I'm partial to the barnes 300gr tsx medium pressure. I used leverevolution before but the deer didn't act as dramatic when hit by it. Plus the medium pressures don't hurt the ears as bad as +p. What do you plan on hunting with it?

Basically whatever needs shooting.....don't have to worry about things like trophy fees ;)..gotta have the odd perk... :E Big Grin:

Am I predictable? :X3:

Remind me: what's your make, model, and barrel length?

I look forward to hearing how the Federal ammo shoots. I hope you manage some of the Hornady someday.

Yup :E Rofl: ...it's a custom brockman...not sure which model..had it a long time but was in storage at Paul's in UK...has laminate greyish colour stock and forend ..front sight with ear protection and ghost ring peep sight...and a sliding trapdoor under stock for extra rounds....not a great photo..bit dark

I used the Winchester 45-70 load with their 300 grain hollowpoint, great whitetail deer medicine in the woods. Also a couple feral hogs (no monsters). But my heaviest whitetail with a high shoulder shot at around 50 yards dropped like a sack of sand at the shot. A good hunting bud owns my Marlin 1895 now, this Federal load shown is what he plans on using this season.

NICE! That looks sharp. Can't wait to see photos!!

That looks to have the same 18.5" pipe mine does. More than enough to do the job...

I have used federal, Winchester and a few rem. 300 gr hp
On deer broadside shots 45 cal hole in and out
They have went through 2 deer
The only difference I saw was the rem load seam slower
The fed and win seam the same
Through and through on hogs.

The only reason I went to the Hornday leaver loads they were cheaper and got easer to find with out online ordering

i load the 300 gr hornady hollow and flat point bullets with 50 grs H-4198 for 2000 fps out of a ruger #1 and a ruger #3, groups were shot at 199 yards from a brench rest. you can load heavier but for what i shoot their is no need. with a double lung shot ray charles could be your tracker.

OK thanks....as I said all I can get...not exactly common calibre here...so yeah looking forward to having a play when get back to takeri....shitloads of small termite mounds to play with as well :A Thumbs Up: ....bout usd 64 or so for the box ...not sure how that compares to over in usa...

I sold my 45-70 a few years ago… but the 300gr federal powershok was my go-to load for it. It was very affordable and super easy to find pretty much anywhere in NA… and it was an absolute hammer on every pig I ever shot with it (pigs were the only game animals I ever hunted with mine…IIRC the ones I took with that rifle ranged from about 70lbs to about 300… I don’t remember any tiny ones with the 45-70… but I do recall a couple of pretty large ones…

He was on quite the roll tonight without the influence of beer… I can only imagine the trouble the three of us could find ourselves in over a 750ml of good gin :D
