Hi Ladies & Gents,

This is directed at the RSA members more than anyone else: I was wondering what the law stipulates with regards to to the .375 Weatherby? As one can shoot .375 H&H ammo in the Weatherby, does that mean I can buy the ammo with a Weatherby license?

This American can't help you on your ammo question, but I love the cartridge choice. I think it is vastly underrated and with the advantage of being able to fire H&H ammo in it is a great option. I hope to put one together sometime.

Hi Alexandro,

If your license says 375 Weatherby then you can buy 375 Weatherby ammunition and not vica versa.

Remember when buying ammunition at a gun shop you have to fill in the register book and at the same time the gunshop assistant will check your license.

The register books are suppose to be for a better word audited or checked by our local Central Firearms Registry and if they come across this there may be a problem for you and the gunshop as they have allowed you to purchase 375 H&H ammunition when your license clearly states 375 Weatherby.

A way around this would be to reload your own ammunition in 375H&H as there is no law against buying components apart from powder and primers therefore you can go and buy 375H&H cases and bullets and reload your own rounds but then again if you get stopped at a road block and they cross reference your license with your loaded ammunition then legally you might have some problems.

If it was me, I would just stick to what my license says I can legally buy and posses i.e 375 Weatherby ammunition.

That's what I was worried about. I think I'm just going to AI the 375, if I think about it.

The case taper of the H&H is good for both feeding and extraction (pressure), but the 416 Rigby achieves the same thing by means of excessive case capacity and so on. The issue I have with the AI is that I worry that feeding will be a problem due to the shoulder angle, but if the rigby doesn't have issues I can't see why the H&H AI should.

Is your gun already a H&H and you were thinking about converting? If so, the AI is not going to be any different than the Weatherby. You'll make brass for either by firing them in the H&H chamber, and the brass will still be correctly stamped H&H. You could have it punched out to 375 Wby and just put a stamp after 375 H&H (WBY). Since brass won't be a consideration, you'll likely be able to get Wby dies easier than AI dies.
