Yes it can be done on a suitable strong actioned rifle but you will be ruining it & seriously effecting the rifles value !
No many cheap firearms are in .375Ex 2 1/2in more so if it will fit the .375 H&H Flanged Magnum, I have a few bolt guns in .375Ex 2 1/2in but non would fit a .375 Flanged Magnum, many years ago I did have a nice Hammerless Cape Gun in .375Ex 2 1/2in X 12ga & did look hard at getting it reamed to H&H Flanged, I think a excellent combo, couldn’t find anyone to do it back then, sure wish I had that rifle today.
So a fair while back it was not unusual to find a lot of fine Doubles & high grade singles converted to .375 Flanged Magnum from the 2 1/2in case, a lot done by one or two well know “Gun Houses” in the US & Australia, this increased value until the Cat got out of the bag & I think some rifles were damaged (some of the H&H doubles aren’t practically strong) now the value is half or nothing !
Similar rechambering is done to some 400/360NE Doubles to 9.3x74R this doesn’t seem to effect the value as much but is still a problem, I was thinking hard on doing such to my lovely Westley Richards to make life easier but unfortunately the WR has a tighter bore .
thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
hey bob , new on here. i specifically joined to enquire about a 444 you built on a Enfield 4-1 you built . who did the barrel and what was the twist and profile specs ? look foward to your reply . cheers
