I was booking my firearm and ammo with Lufthansa yesterday for a driven boar trip to Germany this weekend. Now I’ve done it plenty of times and usually do a bit of navel gazing as the questions and terms are repeated to me.
However ! Several times the person at the other end ( who had stopped calling my rifle a weapon on my insistence) mentioned the dreaded 158cm OAL dimensions.
I have become a minimalist traveller. Carry on backpack and a case for rifle and nonessentials. I take the action out of the stock. Also of course the ammo box, although if possible I would purchase ammunition locally on arrival.
Currently I am using a Peli case (IM3100) which is, ahem, a few centimetres longer overall.
My questions to the hive are. Has anyone actually been called up on that ? Secondly has anyone found a suitable case that slides in at as close to 158cms OAL as possible ?

I think the Pelican 1700 should get you there.
