I’ve heard of 10 gauge slugs being used on lion and Cape buffalo in the past and I want to know if these stories are true, if they are I’d still pick a rifle regardless. I’m simply curious if it’s possible

I am not sure it’s legal anywhere these days but I sure it could work…. Not sure I would want to try it though

12ga is good enough no 10ga needed

I suspect it is possible, although perhaps not entirely advisable.

From a mathematical perspective, a lot of the old black powder stopping rifles were in that sort of power category. For instance, a 577BPE was launching a 570ish grain bullet at around 1725fps for around 3,770ftlb. It was adequate and even considered pretty good for the largest animals, up to and including elephant. In about 1875.

By comparison, a stout 10ga slug might launch a 750gr projectile (1.7oz) at around 1500fps. Around 3,750ftlb. Also adequate I suspect, at least by 1870s standards. Not so hot versus a modern .500NE though.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
