Cooper rifles have to have the magazines tuned to each individual rifle. When I wanted to buy extra magazines for my 9.3x62 & 300H&H I had to send the rifles back to the factory to have that done. IIRC it was about $90 @ magazine plus tax & shipping.

Any combo that includes a 300H&H is perfection in my opinion. Very, very nice rig. Congrats to the new owner and the seller.

Big/medium bore rifles have their own unique desirability. The report and recoil are integral to the experience. I understand why some folks want to suppress smaller hot magnums but anything .375 and up should be enjoyed as they are.

I've had a couple and I'm a big fan but I no longer own one. The 6.5x55 was a casualty of me wanting to cut back to only a few calibers. It was one of the last to go.

I too have owned or still own all four and in my experience the Kimber was the least desirable of the bunch. In fact the Kimber is the only one I don't still own because of how unreliable it was.

CZ, Winchester & Ruger are a no go but a Kimber is okay? I get wanting a 'nice' rifle. I own a couple myself but there's absolutely nothing wrong with a CZ, Winchester or Ruger big game rifle.

There's a reason the 300 and 375 are by far the most popular H&H calibers. I own both. I was mildly interested in 400H&H but after a lot of research I decided it was just too much of an outlier. I went with 404J instead. No regrets.

Pre-64 Model 70's don't live up to the hype. They're good rifles but they aren't the super rifle most people would have you believe. The main thing they have going for them is nostalgia. That's not a bad thing. Buy one with confidence but I sure as heck wouldn't pass up on a modern M70 either.

@Hunter-Habib, please don't refrain from commenting on any topic including PHC. Your insights and experience are an invaluable resource for this forum. I just found it odd you wouldn't let that one minor inconsistency go. I'm still a fan.

All the physics/chemical concerns noted above may be true but I suspect it might have something to do with a lot of shooter's obsession with speed. Those older bullets were designed to work at more reasonable velocities. Push them too hard and you get some of the issues the OP mentioned.

As a few other posters have mentioned I'm headed the other direction. Less is more. I've owned many calibers and still have plenty but I'm thinning the herd. I will keep a few I like even though I don't have a specific need for them but I'm seriously moving towards 3-4 primary calibers.

I would keep my 375H&H. Of the handful of DG caliber rifles I have it's the only one suitable for hunting in all weather and all conditions. CZ550, B&C stock, AHR upgrades.
