No progress unfortunately. I’ve had a few commitments come up. Hoping to resume early 2024.

    Weatherby action

That’s mainly because most manufacturers do not make caliber specific magazines. If the mag box was 2mm wider it would hold 4 rounds down in the box.

    Weatherby action

While comparing some actions today I noticed a something clever on my MKV. Because the lugs do not lock at the 6 and 12 o’clock position. The action can be opened up without concern for removing material at the feed ramp. This gives weatherby the ability to fit the largest calibers (460...

    8x68s barrel

Thanks for the info. I’m sure Blaser know barrel length for 8x68 better than most manufacturers.

    8x68s barrel

Twist is 1 in 11. I’m leaning towards the thinner. It’s still slightly heavier than my 9.3x62 and my 300 weatherby. And I find both fine to shoot. If I went the heavier I would go 24 inch.

    8x68s barrel

Hi there. Looking to order a barrel for an 8x68s. I have heard some mixed reviews on recoil and barrel weight. Which of the 2 below would be most suitable?

    Left hand 404 Jeffery

Update. The recknagel mag box is a bit skinny at the front. So I’m making my own according to Mausers original drawings. Will hold 5 shots and has a left hand follower.

I plan on testing this on a chamois, Tahr, red and Sika. Thinking of doing a mini safari in NZ

    Lightweight sporter

Very nice. I always wanted a left hand finnlite, but they never made one in the configuration I liked. Is that a kiwi composites stock?

I think it was about 7.5lbs.

    Lightweight sporter

    Very nice and light

    Winchester Safari

I used metplat for the import of the safety. I am making my own bottom metals. It’s a lot of machining.

    Winchester Safari

Yeah. I seen that rigby. Was also a nice Dakota 404 jeffery recently.

There is a lefty cz550 in the states for sale atm. But it would be very expensive with current exchanges and shipping.

    Lightweight sporter

The plan was for an all weather, lightweight, long range rifle. But a traditional look.

Nice rifle. If I wasn’t a lefty this build would have a kimber action

    Lightweight sporter

6.5 is great. It’s no big surprise the creedmore is so popular. I just wanted something with a bit more horsepower or I would have went 6.5x55. I use small copper 113 grain. It shoots 1350fps.

    Winchester Safari

Great collection of rifles. I really want a cz550 left hand for a 416 Rigby. Which if your 375s do you prefer? I just got 3 of the left had Winchester style safeties imported for my Zastava.

My new lightweight sporter. 6.5-284. Built on a short action Montana 1999 with a McMillan edge stock and stainless walther barrel. Fully cerekoted in Midnight

    Winchester Safari

The Sunny hill 5 shots are nice. But I want to keep the original stock. I am currently making one piece magazines and floorplates for some Zastavas I want to take on safari.
  31. Bert Reynolds

    Winchester Safari

No. It’s just slightly wider. So it keeps the same stock and just fits one more round
  32. Bert Reynolds

    Winchester Safari

Whoever ships to Australia may be the deciding factor in the bottom metals. Sunny hill seams to have the best reputation of all. shame about the the mag boxes.

On a right hand rifle the bolt is on the right and the cheek piece is on the left.

    Winchester Safari

Hi all. I just purchased a left hand Winchester safari in 375 H&H. Rifle is coming from the other side of the world, so I have a few months to wait. Being a classic rifle, I don’t want to make any serious changes. However I would like an Oberndorf floorplate and a Duane Weibe mag box. What is...

    Projectiles

I had some 180 grain E tips, but they didn’t shoot great. Velocity was a little lacking too. 180 accubonds shot ok. From what I’ve read you can go a bit lighter in the all copper bullets.

Just ordered some 155s for my 300 weatherby to try on sambar. They are a good price!

    500 schuler magazine

No stress on the measurements. I think I’ve got everything I need. This one is going to be much less work than the 404 Jeffery.

    500 schuler magazine

I always assumed that clip was a spring that would have a recess in the action like on a Westley Richards.

Thanks. those picture are exactly what I needed. It looks like they barely open the receiver up for width.
  40. Bert Reynolds

    500 schuler magazine

Great photos. It’s a more basic arrangement than I expected. It can be top loaded through the ejection port? The tab does not look like it has much give in it. I couldn’t be a real pain and ask for a pic of the underside of the action and a measurement of the feed rail opening? Just curious to...

    500 schuler magazine

You wouldn’t feel like sharing some good pics of the tongue arrangement? I’m making the magazine arrangement, but I’ve never seen a good pic of how schuler done the mogazine internals.
  42. Bert Reynolds

    Magazine width

I’m thinking of opening it up as much as possible like this pic. Then playing with the feed rails.
  43. Bert Reynolds

    Magazine width

Hi all. I’m currently making bottom metals for my 404J and 8x68. To get a double stack correct for the 404 correct it needs to be 26mm wide. My concern is that a 98 is only 27.5mm wide. Do people open the bottom of the action up to 26mm?
  44. Bert Reynolds

    Brass

It’s easy to get here. Having a good collection of rifles to take advantage of all the brass is the hard part.

    Projectiles

I’m looking for a replacement for woodleigh projectiles. Currently I have loads worked up in my 9.3x62 and my 450/400. But I have a 404 Jeffery and an 8x68 with a gunsmith being built for. My first safari and for Australian buff. I have some Bertram projectiles, but these are basic cup and core...

    Left hand short action feeler

I’m not selling. But I’ve got 2 left hand Montana rifles, both short actions. These are nice as they are both crf rifles and are more like an intermediate length. So I have a 257 roberts and a 6.5/285.
