Down loading the 458WM to 45-70??

these were my 2 lines of thought as well. Black bears are not terribly hard to kill, a 458 cal bullet at anything above 1400 fps and under 50y is not unreasonable. If the 458 gun is heavy and she can handle the weight, that is good. A light 308 may kick a lot harder. But as said by others...

    375 Ruger Wildcats

no, I had new Heym barrels reamed. I never had a 9.3x64... dream of my youth, but not that practical. powder capacity of the 9.3CAN is about 5-8 gr more, speed is the same, but Hornady brass is quite soft, so for all practical purposes the 2 cartridges do the same.

I need boots for my first safari

Meindl are German, as are Hanwag and Reck. Germany is lucky that a lot of the small, semi custom shoemakers have survived and still make well crafted lines of shoes ( often in addition to very commercialized lines that they need for volume and economic well being. You can still get double...

    375 Ruger Wildcats

I had a 9.3x375 made (AKA 9.3 Canadienne), as I could not get brass for a 9.3x64. Reamer from PTG, dies from Hornady, simple neck down procedure to make Ammo, using Hornady brass in either 375 or 416 denomination. 2 guns were made one on an AboltIII/300WM, one on an FN Mauser, both with Heym...

    Good Gun Deals This Week

just reading through the thread, I have always been fascinated by best guns, among other reasons, because my artistic fine motor skills are next to nil. If I were to put the money down for a gun like that, I think I would want the experience, going to Hamburg, getting the stock fitted, have...

    CZ 550 .458 Lott

I have the Safari version in 416 R, getting rid of the front swivel sling is really important, a Leupold V6 1-6 works well for me. double check the bedding and have the recoil lug at least bedded, stock can crack if anything is loose. your guns lugs are already backed up. Have fun!

    Ruger No. 1 Upgrades

Hicks accurizer has worked well for a friend of mine.I have a heavy barrel 6.5x284 Norma which shot inconsistently. It had this system (number 3) installed and , whenI tightened it turned the gun from so-so to a 1/2 moa shooter https://www.riflemagazine.com/magazine/PDF/ri51partial.pdf

    .416 isn't grouping well!

I have the very same rifle but with the woodstock/Safari edition. In terms of the stabilizing of the bullet: I have loads with 36 gr Trailboss at 1400 fps that stabilize the 400 gr Hornady just fine ( pest load), so your load should be ok. The twist is 1: 16.5 Woodleighs should be at least 2 mm...

Namibia is definitely on my list I even have some cousins of my grandma still around Windhuk. I remember the leopard skin I admired on my great-grandfathers wall that was taken there (think that is what got me into hunting, I was an impressionable 3 year old).

Hi, I have hunted in Marocco for pigs in the remote past ( 1980s) otherwise Europe, US and Canada. I reload for most of my guns, mostly for a 416 Rigby, several 9.3s, an 8x68 and varmint guns. I very much enjoy bird hunting with my lab and try to get my annual moose into the freezer ( like...

    9.3x64mm Brenneke

I just read through this thread as I grew up with 9.3 guns ( which were the big boy's toys), so my 1st 9.3 was a custom 9.3x62 built on a DWM Berlin action. I was always turned off by the lack of available 9.3x64 brass although I wanted one badly so I began wondering about a 9.3 wildcat based on...
