    What's up with shipping agents?

I swear I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here. So... the USFWS and the US Dept of Agriculture are federal Agencies. Their employees are Federal Workers. Are you saying I have to pay a Federal employee to inspect my crate. I thought that was their job and what the Federal Government pays them...

    What's up with shipping agents?

Thank you for giving me an estimation on price. For that amount I will let them do whatever needs to be done. I literally didn't know if I was entering into another 5 grand commitment.

    What's up with shipping agents?

Do you know what they for you? Exactly. Is it paperwork? Is it getting them to my porch? is it inspecting the crate? And nobody has addressed what these services cost.

    What's up with shipping agents?

Shootist- I know you will be excited as heck upon your return, but if you remember please reach out to me and let me know whom Bullseye recommended. I still do not have a clear understanding of what exactly this importer does. Not sure what "clear" your trophies means. I also have a copy of...

    What's up with shipping agents?

Thank you for quick reply. So, this company that Craig will suggest; they are the "shipper" correct? What would need to be done on my end to "finish importing them". I guess that's what I don't understand. What exactly needs to be done, that will determine if it's something I can do or not.

    What's up with shipping agents?

Planning for my first African Safari. I will be hunting in South Africa. I hope to have about 6 mounts done by a taxidermist in RSA. I live in Baltimore, Maryland USA which has a major Sea Port, and that's where my trophies will go to by sea. In reading these boards I have discovered these...

    Shooting off sticks

I agree. I inquired to my PH what types of sticks he uses. He replied Stoney Points. So now I will practice with them over here. I want him to carry what he is comfortable with.

    Shooting off sticks

Scheduled for my first African Safari in June of 2024. Although I am an avid hunter here in my US home, I have never shot off sticks. Of course I plan to practice that (a lot) before I head over. Any advice for someone who has never shot off sticks before? Anything different I should be...

    Zebra 3-D Wall Pedestal Price

I am really liking these Zebra 3-D Wall Pedestals. I am seeing lot of taxidermists in SA that do them, but they are not appearing on their price lists. Anybody been over there recently know how much these typically go for? Thanx in advance.

That's the exact opposite of what the 3 people above you said. Are you sure?

Are removeable horns the actual horns?

I just watched a Youtube video wherein they were unpacking a crate of SA trophies to show the recipient how to unpack the crate. I was shocked to see the horns were not attached to the mounts, and that they just slipped on. Question - are these the actual horn of the animal harvested, or are...

So I'd like to carry a pair of Leica 8x42 Bino's on my upcoming African Safari. But I will probably never need them again so I am hesitant to lay down the cash for a new pair. Anybody got a used set they're looking to sell? Thanx.

    Sable Hunt Coming Up

I've noticed in checking trophy fee lists that the fee for a Sable has actually come down over the last few years. I take that to mean the population has been increasing. Good luck to you.

    What to carry

Absolute newbie here. Making plans to go on my first African hunting trip ever and looking for advice from those that are more seasoned than I. I know the PH typically carries binos/range finder. Should I? I see the advantage of having my own binos, but I also see the advantage of having my...

    SOUTH AFRICA: TIA

Just dumped a cup of coffee all over myself, my seat and my cubicle. And seconds later while I was trying to clean up I knocked over the cup again dumping the remainder. I’m blaming it on sleep deprivation. Blaming it on sleep deprivation. How about blaming on the fcat you might be a mental midget.

Who does the measuring and when does it happen?

Thanks for the info. Very helpful - with one change. This is from the SCI manual that I was supplied a link to in this post. "All new entries that rank in the overall Top 20 of a Record Book category, and all entries nominated for a Major Award, must be certified, which means they must be...

Who does the measuring and when does it happen?

Very fair points Sir. Let me try to explain. I am new to Africa but not new to hunting. I have hunted for over 30 years and have taken world class animals. But I am clueless when it comes to Africa. I have 4 friends that have hunted with the outfitter i am going with in Africa. One friend has...

Who does the measuring and when does it happen?

I am new to this, so I am still in the leaning phase, but my initial thoughts is that I want all of animals in the SCI book. I'm not really concerned with what medal status they are.

Who does the measuring and when does it happen?

Sir, Please excuse my ignorance as I am new to this. I plan on having my animals shoulder mounted. You said to get my trophies to an official measurer. How do I do that if I am in the USA and they are at the taxidermy shop in RSA? Is it too late to do that once my mounts ship to me? Thanx again...

Who does the measuring and when does it happen?

I have read some posts on here that say don't worry about the measurements and the SCI minimums. I will be going to Africa for the first time in June of 2024. Unfortunately I probably will not ever be able to go a second time. For the money I'm going to pay, I definitely AM going to worry about...

Euro mounts- Am I smoking the devils lettuce?

I MUCH prefer shoulder mounts to Euros. The point you bring up about taking them down to dust and maintain them, I overcome by making them Pedestal mounts. That way your guests can also see them much closer up. And... you don't need tons of wall space. PEDESTAL mounts, I think, are the way to go.

Why would an outfitters trophy fee list be higher?...

Yeah... Everybody is kind of acting like I got taken. But I won this hunt and get 3 free animals. So there will be no daily fees etc. Just the trophy fees. Being as the outfitter donated the hunt, I understand he needs to make up for some of that on the trophy fees. And I'm OK with that. Thanks...

I won this hunt as well. And I am guaranteed to be the only hunter in camp. I will the undivided attention of the owner/PH, 2 trackers, 1 skinner, 1 driver, 2 cooks, 1 room attendant, and 1 laundry attendant. I feel better about the fee list now. I have also been told by my friends that have...

So I am booked on my first South African Safari for June of 2024. I have heard nothing but great things about my outfitter/PH. Four of my close friends have hunted with him before and they consider him to be like family. My conversations with him have all been super pleasant. But... He has...
