Contemplating selling my CZ 550 chambered in 505 Gibbs. Rifle started as a 375 H&H and was sent to Jason at Aria Ballistic Engineering in Washington state to be rechambered. Has been fired 6 times since the rechambering. Stock was refinished, fiber optic sights installed. Asking $6,000 but will hear offers. Thank you

Jason knows what he's doing. I have him doing some work on a 500 Jeffery right now. $6,000 is not unreasonable as 505 Gibbs aren't available regularly. I know he has it working silky smooth. He has moved his operations to Texas now. Going to fly down to pick up my gun and a bunch of ammunition when he gets it done.

That's great news, I'm in Texas. And yes he does very nice work.

If no one purchases it here then list it on Guns International for $5,995. You'll probably get some offers and you will end up getting more than $5,000. It's just what they have been going for.

I have a rifle similar to this one. Mine is not ported. I know that these rifles have a reputation of harsh recoiling, but AZ_Dave put me onto Accurate 5744. Here is my 13 Y/O son shooting mine. As a bear stopper, it would be hard to beat. I absolutely love 505 Gibbs!!!

505 Gibbs ia a great caliber, probably more than enough on bear. Is there any specific reason to carry such a heavy caliber for bears or you just love the effect?

No it is probably over kill, but in the same token I have seen Grizzlies take multiple shots from a 375 Ruger and still have gas in the tank. Also, I am mostly backing up my 13 y/o son these days, and he still needs to devolope some shooting instincts. He does well, but we are in tight quarters with dangerous game. I would rather have to much gun and not need it, than have just the right amount of gun and need just a bit more. When I was hunting for myself I used the Browning BLR 300 WSM and carried a 454 casull backup. I carry the 505 because I have it, but I also like to carry my 550 magnum by Neal Sherlie (admittedly there may be just a bit of because I can thrown in there).

All of that said the 505 Gibbs loaded with 40% 5744 is about 4,800 ft/lbs of energy. The average for the 375 Ruger is about 4,700 ft/lbs. That said, I would prefer to deliver my 4,700 to 4,800 ft/lbs with a 1/2 round nose. Just me.

If I sell it. I’ll post some pictures. I don’t want to take over this thread.

458 win mag might be the sweet spot for your purpose loaded with CEB solids or raptors and give you a bit lighter rifle. I have a Winchester model 70 cut to 19.5” with suppressor and red dot I carry for that purpose. The 505 Gibbs is a great round though. I wonder how loud and accurate it would be with ports however.

Ya I am definitely a fan of the 458 win mag. I literally have three VZ24 K98s I am barreling to 458 win mag right now. Numrich has barrels for $203 chambered in 30-06, 375, and 458. So I bought three of those. Two are almost ready for wood. I'm still waiting on my 3rd barrel. They messed up my order and sent me a 30-06 barrel. I dud not need it, but I kept it anyway and just reordered the 3rd barrel.

As for the 505 being ported. I dont believe it will affect the accuracy at all. It may be a little louder than normal, but I thick the 5744 could help quiet it some as well. I have to wonder what it would be like to put a silencer in a 505 Gibbs. You would still have the sonic crack, but who knows that could be interesting. Once Alaska gets its silencer laws fixed I may mess around with that some.

Noah,
I might be interested in the 470 Woodleigh Softs if the price is right for the entire lot. Are you planning on going to the Tulsa Gunshow in November? If so, perhaps we could meet up.
