Just found the pics of my beautiful Whitworth thats currently hiding in the back of my safe, this is the one I want to get some work done to make it DG capable and reliable. I hope to get to Africa within the next two years with it along with my grandfather's old Win model 54 in .270 win, restocked with a model 70 barrel he bought off his friend Elmer Keith! I asked him on his 85th birthday, whats your one regret Pop? He said not going on safari with Elmer Keith, he said he was always too busy ranching and bring county commissioner. I want to take his rifle with him and get something with it. I'll have to post some pics of that notched up .270 as well. He ran his shaky hands over all the notches and told me what they were all for. Great memories.

Now I just need a good gunsmith to send it off to or drop off at.

Hope you enjoy the pics,
Bill

I have has a Whitworth Express in .458 Win Mag for over 40 years. I have taken two cape buffalo bulls with it. I love that rifle! Over the years I have made a few modifications.
They have a habit of splitting stocks. My .458 started to split behind the receiver after the first time I took it to the range. They're kind of famous for this. Do yourself a favor and have yours glass bedded before you shoot it a lot.
The trigger isn't great and I really wasn't thrilled with the safety. A replacement Timney trigger with a Model 70 type 3 position safety fixed the rifle up to make me happy.

I hope you enjoy your Whitworth Express as much as I have enjoyed mine!

Doug

Nice rifle I had a whitworth .375 that I bought used and had been bedded that was a real shooter; the only thing I don’t like about them is the stamped sheet metal two position safety but that’s an easy with the quality 3 position safeties available.

Edit - as @Doug Hamilton said mine had the tang relieved, rod installed in the wrist, bedded with pillars on the cross bolt; I mean really bomb proofed and had a Timney trigger installed as well.

I picked this up on Ebay from Parkwest Arms, I love it the pic does not do the color case credit.

Very nice Whitworth Express, and what a great story behind the Model 54!

I have two of those Whitworth Express 375H&Hs myself (one to pass on to each of my kids), and they are fantastic rifles; I'd argue they are the best bang for the buck in the BGR market. Well made, beautiful, and very accurate. I've never seen what kind of original packaging that they came in, so thanks for including that in your pictures. I'm curious to know when yours was made. There is a month and date code stamped on the right side of the receiver just forward of the bolt handle. Mine were both made in 1985, within a couple months of each other. Like yourself, I need to get mine to Africa someday as well; and hope to at least get it down to South Texas for a nilgai in the meantime.

That one has the castle on the barrel, should be an early one. I have one with the castle that was built in 1975 (11/75).

Yeah, I noticed the castle and was curious about that (my 1985 guns do not have it); so thank you for the explanation.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer

Couple of quick questions:

1) Can we add some additional species on
2) what do you want for a deposit?
3) how do you want me to sign up

I'm on whats app or email
