Ammo box for airline travel

I use this one, perfect for two boxes (40 rounds in total) of 9.3x62 and two boxes of .416, although only 30 of these due to weight.

All these boxes for ammo….are they checked as a regular luggage bag? Or are they inside your suitcase your clothing is in?

Depends. Domestic flights in SA they want them separate, and once I was on an international Ethiopian Airways flight that also insisted it should be separate. So I would say: be prepared for it to be separate.

Most often: Ammunition as a separate piece of checked luggage, containing only ammunition.

Sometimes: Due to local laws or due to an airline having its own ideas, you might be asked to do it differently. Be prepared and read up on the laws and airline rules applicable to your trip.

And regardless of laws, rules, etc be prepared to do it otherwise if the ground staff decided so, so also always bring padlocks for your ammo boxes.

I prefer Pelican as it (and I think Plano) are US-made. Like Toby Keith said -- I'll spend a little more for a tag that says USA. Buying Chinese is unavoidable, unfortunately. But it amazes me how many people don't care -- yet you're ultimately buying from a manufacturer that's paying taxes to a government that's actively trying to undermine our country.

I know it's been dicussed before but could anyone recommend a ammo box to use for locking your ammo for air travel. I will be flying Delta.
Thanks
Remind us what rifle or rifles you are bringing and how many rounds for each.

Im in the Pelican 1200 camp for sure, and typically bring it even if I’m not doing an Airlink flight as it will hold 4 MTM boxes of ammo, which I’ve packed it with 40 rounds of 450NE and 40 rounds of 416 Rigby, fit fine and right at 11lb. This trip in just over a week will carry 40 rounds of 500NE and 40 rounds of 375 FL. Maybe shift the number a bit.

If bringing less, there is another pelican option or two that will work wonderfully as well.

I will be bringing a 470 N.E. or a 450 N.E. double rifle and a 375 H&H bolt gun. So looks like the pelican 1200 is a good choice for me.

The Pelican 1200 would work perfectly allowing room to fit at least 4-boxes of ammo in factory Hornady and Barnes boxes or plastic MTM cases. Some factory boxes like Federal have a bunch of dead-air space and awkward dimensions for packing.

It’s not that heavy or extra bulk if packed in your main roller bag, and it ideal if you transfer through JNB in route to another country since Airlink will require it to fly on its own out of the other suitcase.

If bringing the 450NE and 375, you might be able to fit an additional thin MTM wallet with 8-10 more rounds if neccesary. I know for certain the 1200 will hold 40-rounds of 500NE + 40-rounds of 375.
