How good/bad are these rifles ? For one that is in decent shape what’s the ball park range in terms of pricing?

They are intrinsically sound rifles, and generally regarded as an excellent value. They are built with Zastava (Serbian) commercial Mauser actions assembled and finished in England thus the Whitworth name. Interarms would be the importer. I had a Zastava commercial Mauser in 7RM and I felt it was a good value for the receiver (at the $400 that I had in it) as a donor for a custom build; that gun was a lower end Charles Daly import, the barrel wasn’t great and the stock was just okay. The Whitworth guns are a higher level fit and finish. I very nearly picked up a Whitworth .375 H&H locally for $950 not long ago but held back mostly due to the trigger/safety design which I don’t much like. The commercial Mauser has an enclosed type trigger with a sliding side safety incorporated into the trigger mechanism, as do the majority of bolt action rifles nowadays. I personally prefer an open trigger design and a 3-position safety on the bolt. If you can pick up a Whitworth inside of a grand I’d say go for it.

I used mine in Namibia this past July.

I practiced with it a lot and found it to be a really solid shooting piece. It really shined in accuracy with Barnes box ammo, which pleased me as I’m a big TSX fan.

I liked the fact that it fit me well and was light, relatively speaking, compared to my old M70 that it replaced.

My only concern was with the action. It was sloppy and before I would ever use it for DG it would have to be slicked. Another thing i found, after unlocking and extracting a spent case, I was working the bolt to the rear hard to eject. Never had a failure to load. To me, I just needed to practice and get used to it. If I keep it I will absolutely slick the action.

I paid $1100.00 for mine shipped. It was in pristine never fired condition.
 
I saw one here in b good condition and was impressed by the blueing. Price 1550.00!plus taxes,
 
Withworth rifles were prefered by Alaskan guides for a lot of time.The most famous its the Old Ugly of Phil Shoemaker with sintetic stock a fixed leupold detachable bases and ghost ring sigth.

That is not an Echols rifle but a clone as it has the Echols stock and all the bells and whistles. Lon Paul who built the rifle does great work.
