On my 9.3 I have a Swaro 4-12 50 with BT. Works v well

However I do find that I need more magnification than I did in my younger years and I like the illuminated crosshairs dot on my most recent purchase for dark hide animals.

For a .375 that will see actual use against plains game critters, I tend to favor something that can fully exploit the ballistics of the round. There's no real reason the .375 can't be used well to at least 300 yards. For me, something at 12X at the upper range would be ideal.

For this to be a proper DG rifle, the low end is vitally important. 2X works just fine for me inside of 50 yards. YMMV. A big field of view helps. Illumination can help at night.

But.......

It is absolutely crucial that you maintain discipline to keep the scope on its lowest setting anytime encountering DG is a possibility. This is really, really easy to forget.

I'd also mount it on QD rings so you can get the whole mess out of the way for close follow-up situations.
 
I am a big nightforce fan it’s not in your list but the new Nx6 has to be what appears to be their first entry to a DG scope. My second choice would be the trijicon. I value holding zero above all else. The glass in this caliber of optic is all more than good enough.

Many here as well as myself am almost convinced 375 H&H as ubiquitous, but I would be interested to know your opinion. why you dont think so?

I don’t know where you’ve hunted or how much, but I wouldn’t consider 300 yards a sniping fantasy. I’d consider it an expectation of hunters they can shoot essentially maximum point blank range anywhere 0 to 300 yards. One of my best elands was from an elephant hunt. We followed their tracks into an old cleared farming area. We saw maybe 600 or 700 yards away at the end of the cleared area at last light and worked in to 300 yards with little cover. That’s not an area that consistently produces eland and was their only bull for the year. If you’re OK passing opportunities that’s your choice, but I think shooting anywhere 0 to 300 yards is a general expectation for any PG hunt. Stalk closer is a nice idea, but not always practical.

All the more reason to keep things simple and dont mix up DG/PG hunting same day or time...but then opportunity does arise that should not be passed.

You have no intention of hunting something in the night, or low light conditions, small predators, leopards?

My choice for all round, all conditions PG and DG rifle, scope is: 1.7-10x42. In my case Swarovski Z6.
To have wide angle option in daylight conditions, and some light gathering capability with 42 mm lenses, as all round scope. Swarovski brand or something else is less relevant.

Yes Mainly focussed on DG in daylight with option for PG as well.
At present not thinking of nite time hunting, with this rifle Sir.But who knows I may probably change my thought process or may use my 9.3 which carries a Swaro Z3.
 
I can’t remember ever adjusting my scope off minimum magnification on any rifle I own . A mix of Leopold and Swarovski 1-6x . All good .
For deer a 2.5-7x Kahles . Always use 2.5x setting and with a 7mm Mauser I use an old Pecar 4x fixed magnification . I have an Aimpoint on a Ruger No1 in 450/400. It is good too for in close but I dislike it because it needs a battery . My vote is for any scope not requiring batteries .

It is considered in many jurisdictions to be minimum. I prefer a little more margin if going against something that stomps back. Also, I prefer beltless cartridges. It's not that I consider the 375H&H bad- I just prefer the 404.
As for scopes, my favorite brand is Schmidt & Bender and my choice for a combination rifle would be either the 1.25-4x or the 2.5-10x, depending on how close the DG or how far the PG was expected.
 
Given the ballistics of a .375H&H, ixd want that bit of extra magnification so I can thread a bullet on a PG target 150 yards out...could go further but I think pretty rare.

Importantly, i have my scope on my .375 with Talley QD rings so if need be, in the thick stuff, I just go to iron sights.
 
Needful of a fixed 10x for DG inside 60-yds.

Personally for the 375 I am a Leupold man as most know. I prefer the VX5 2-10x42 with FireDot just incase I need it. That scope has served me well for the 5 safaris that rifle has been on. I have taken animals from 40 yards to a Gemsbok at 230yards.

Respectfully, will use QD rings but really do not want to go to 12 X magnification on a DG rifle.

Thats why I got my Leupold in that specs from you, Mark, currently it sits on my 338 Win Mag. :)
