Hello all - if anyone has or happens to know of someone that has a Ruger No. 1 tropical in .458 Lott, and would be open to selling, please feel free to ping me a message. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum - proceed with caution there have been scammers that will highjack an existing members account or start a new account and send you a PM stating something like..

“My friend has exactly what your looking for contact him at (insert email)”

Just do the due diligence and try to authenticate multiple ways, such as pics of the item with today’s news paper + a phone call or face time.

Thank you for the heads up deewayne2003!

I think GB PRICING is very resonable for what it is. I have 3 of them in my collection i paid very close to that.
@Jefferry404
You should get atleast thst for the NIB .
KRISH.
If i sm correct less than 200 of them were made.

@TexasCollector Few months back there was a Ruger No 1 458 at my local Bass Pro shop. It had a broken rear sight or part of it was hanging, but in overall nice condition. The sight could be easily soldered back.
I even handled the gun. It was priced at $2100 and they offered me 5% discount due to the broken rear sight.

BTW I found the gun well made, the safety very flimsy as if it may fall apart any time. Just wanted to give you an idea.
I feel GB guns are largely overpriced.

I have a 458WM. You might have more success getting a 458WM and having a good gunsmith ream it out to 458 Lott. RJ Renner, who does some amazing work on No 1's, can do it all day long for you. I spoke to him and it's well within his capabilities.

I'm sure you know this but the recoil on that will be "lively", to put it mildly.

May I ask you a question? With so many better options for a 458 lott why do u need a Ruger 1? No harm but want to know.

You bet, brutal from the bench.

When I asked RJ about converting mine, he said "Shoot the 458WM first, and see if you really want the Lott after." I shot the 458WM a few times and never thought a second time about the Lott.

The 458WM in that gun is probably 70 lbs recoil. Lott has to be over 80 lbs.

Thanks SStomcat. I’ve checked through their inventory. They currently don’t have any of the lotts, but have 5-6 of the 458 win mags.

I bought mine as reminded me of the old African single shot with long, straight wall cartridge.
And can shoot the winmag.
But, I imagine the recoil will be tough!
I totally agree with you. I also like the fact that it can take the 458 win mag if you are in a pinch.

Great question. I for some reason am drawn to the look of the rifle, and the less common caliber configuration. I also think I’d enjoy a lot of laughs taking it to the deer woods!

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob
